Welcome to the World of warcraft Forums.

Yes you got it right,

World of Warcraft.

Where kids fight over insignificant conflict and game mechanics... Alway complaining about something when half of the time they seem to do it the wrong way. Not talking about the trolls invasion and the the total lack of respect for each other. Elitist everywhere being above everyone else. Clearly after a while, the game grows in popularity and things mentioned above become a real problem.

Well the exact same thing is happening in Elite: Dangerous. My forum page is always opened ready to search for tips and tricks or interesting discovery or even funny and distracting posts. But the game grows and it grows day after day to become more and more like a pre-juvenile MMO with its traditional trolls and ungrateful kids invading the forums and making it a living hell.

Im not a backer or an Elitist. I didnt even played on beta. I bought the game on the 25th of december and already i saw the forums take a drastic turn in terms of content and player cooperation. I thought this game was composed of a mature community but obviously i was wrong. The amount of players joining the game and making it more and more into an Arcade fighting style game where respect is forgotten and griefing has become the core gameplay is becoming a problem.

I dont want to see a game i like become this.

Now this post is not meant for the players who fit in one of the category above. Please refrain from posting if your primary idea is to troll.

And I, in turn, would like to welcome you to the internet, good sir. When you have exhausted your options for entertainment here you can find more of the same at our other prestigious areas such as Facebook, Reddit and Tumblr.

Well, wait, what if I'm not intending to troll, but you assume I am? Would it still be okay for me to respond? TIA for clarifying.

Forums are always the worst of a community sadly. However i am a little astounded by some of the attitudes i've seen here and how people will applaud combat-logging or abusing mechanics on someone for playing the game in a way they disapprove of. This is the first game-forum i've ever been on where people have actually encouraged combat logging and that is shameful.

Elite seems to be a game that suffers from the fact that it attracts a variety of playstyles and some members within each playstyle seem to believe their perspective is the only valid one.

what exactly counts as greefing .... multiple kills in the docking port ...... what else ?

not sure how many greefers are out there to be had - i guess if your a trader .... then pirates count ?
what does it mean to be greefed ... chassed down and killed over and over. - however elite does not force you into the same patch as a pirate or greefer or even as a bounty hunter

yes the endless nerf requests i guess... but is that a reasonable or un reasonable thing...

older players are often people who played elite on the PC and amiga etcetera in bygone ages and hence grown up.

And I, in turn, would like to welcome you to the internet, good sir.

Aah, you understand that just because the internet is a haven of anonymous trollery, that it's not appropriate to assume everyplace else should be? Not everyplace is "the internet" -- in case you hadn't checked this is a subscribed game, a closed world, wholly controlled by FD. Sure there will be trolls from the internet that will try to take up residence, but this is not 4Chan, Reddit or Tumblr or one of the internet sites comprised entirely of trolls.

Try walking up to a cop in some city and setting his pants leg on fire, then telling him "welcome to the internet" and report back how it works for you.

Community was amazing during beta. All gaming forums are not like this, sim community is in general excellent, community on Julian Gollop's Chaos remake is also great. Atag community on IL2 Cliffs of Dover is superb. Oolite community is great.

Elite forum community is now a generic mmo community with the same generic mmo arguments.

'Welcome to the internet' indeed, there are fantastic gaming communities out there, this used to be one of them.

Not half. I was away from the forums for most of gamma, and when I returned post launch it was like someone had cut the IQ of the whole community in half.

Begrudgingly, I agree - there's not much worth reading on here at times these days.....other than the same already-trodden topics.

With a bit of luck, they'll open up the Beta sub-forums again, for the upcoming releases - doubt it though.

Erm... it's a video-game forum... What do you expect? You know the form.

Saying that I don't think it's half as bad as OP makes out.

That's like assuming that just because Ebola is a communicable virus, that doesn't mean that it could possibly end up spreading HERE....

Edit: And let's put a stop to this nonsense about how great the golden days of the beta forums were. They were worse back in beta. Say one thing against the popular consensus and you were yelled at until the mods shut down the thread or you stopped checking for replies.
