Well done on the beginner guides guys. GJ. (sarcasm)

Five minutes into game, boosts upon approach, crashes into hangar trying to land, blows up. " Trial and Error. "
Two hours into game, boosts into station, cant control crashes into wall. " Trial and even more error. "
Five hours into game, RES Site, boosts into asteroid. " god-damnit, i'm making sure to never press that boost button ever again. "
two hundred hours, FDL, RES Site, boosts into asteroid again. " Damnit its so fast, back to never pressing that boost button. " Ship doesn't blow up.
Thirty seconds later. Attempts emergency landing, oxygen running out, upon approach thrusters malfunction, sending me into an ad billboard killing me. " I DIDN'T EVEN HIT THE BOOST THAT TIME! "

So i'm a new player.. just started and i gotta say this game is by far the worst game i've ever played as far as getting started is concerned (and i've played X3 and KSP .15 so thats gotta be saying something). What in the world am i suppose to be doing? I had 1k of which i've spent most of it on fuel, i'm stranded in some system with out any fuel and i cant dock because I'm getting Access denied... great now what?

iam totaly new to game aswell, but now i can feel lack of tutorial. First of all is control - iam using X52 and spend like one and half a hour to figure out how to dock. Also i very like undocking tutorial where you can press all buttons and read what thay do.
Btw any1 who use x52 can help me figure out how to navigate on left bottom menu - i use Elite profile, and when iam 'look" at panel i can use upper joistick(on stick) to navigate right and left menus, but iam totaly lost how to navigate up and down, only way i could do it is using keyboard (W and S buttos).
I know i can find out it by experimenting with my X52 but alot of vidoes and text guides and also Saitek profile setup tool just a WALL of info i hardly can sort out atm. (yesterday spend all my free time after job only to figure out how to dock, lol)

Both of you should look into this post

This guy is willing to fly out to you, teach you the basics of the game, answer whatever questions you have for him about the game, Fly around and keep you safe from the obnoxious griefers that are sometimes present as well as hook you up with a decent chunk of starting cash to get you on your way. Excellent resource!

Check out the guide in my sig, it's written precisely because the official materials are so terrible when you're starting out.

I honestly don't get the issues people have? There are tutorials for a reason. Also there is a more than excessive Manual delivered with the game. The only external information that I got when I first got the game was RES being a great place to Bounty Hunt (and guess how I found out? Exactly, I looked it up). People apparently have to be taught to LEARN again. Not every game just throws everything at you for your disposal without you putting some effort in it. Reading what is given to you should be the least.
(The docking issue shows that you have NOT read either the manual nor did the tutorial missions)

With the information that is given to you, you should be able to make enough money to go from stock Sidey to fully equipped Eagle to fully equipped Viper to fully equipped Vulture within a reasonable amount of time. I didn't even die once until 162 hours into the game and never had issues docking.

Now to be fair, do I know every little bit about this game? Hell no, even after all this time I think I haven't even scratched the surface of some of the details and admittedly there is some lack of introduction, especially regarding background info (lore etc.). However getting started and getting the hang of the basics of the game should be something you can expect from everyone, who enjoyed a basic form of education. Just my opinion though. The direction modern games go seem to prove me wrong, so what do i know.
Also I would always welcome Forntier changing the introduction in a way to make it easier for people to understand and get a hang of it in less time. I do welcome people pointing them in this direction with proper critique. However blaming them for your incapability with sarcastic complaints is something different.

@Spankish

You are very right, people could be a bit more self directed.

However, modern gaming has trained a lot of people to expect a tutorial sequence when they load the game for the first time. Heck, even games with an accessible tutorial from the menu still have a Level 0 tutorial when they start the main game.

Now, I'm not saying that FD should do that...but I am saying that I understand the frustration and I sympathize with it.

Well I do understand it as well and know where these complaints are coming from. I just think proper critique would be more appropriate (just added this line with an edit in my comment while you posted). But people complaining because of their own incapability makes me lose the sympathy ;D

The most serious weakness that Elite suffers from is Frontier's complete failure to provide a detailed manual. The existing one is a joke. The impression this gives—that Frontier are a bunch of amateurs—is wrong, but they sure would do themselves a great favour if they quit releasing upgrades, fixed the bugs and wrote a proper manual. ED is a very complicated game and the developers appear to have played it so long they have forgotten how much of a challenge it is to learn. To make matters worse, when Frontier do explain something—witness the new rules on fines/bounties, or the whole Powerplay thing—they often do it so badly that it takes weeks before the user base gets its collective head around what the explanation actually means!

But stick with it, Elite is a great game, even if the developers can't explain how it works. Hey, maybe we could have a new kickstarter group to fund the manual?

I'm not sure we read the same manual? I feel like the 59 pages explain most basics of the game quite extensively. Now it's not on the level of the 671 page DCS a-10C guide but let's stay real here, ED is not a hardcore simulator.
