Well folks, I sold off 48 of my ships today

And it sure makes scrolling through my ship list a bit faster. Yep, all of these ships existed solely for storing unengineered Powerplay modules and were stored around ShinDez for easy access when building new designs. Some years ago, I had previously spent a the 11-12 months it took to pledge to all of the PP 1.0 powers and then, after the required wait, bought and stored "all that I would ever want" of each of their PP modules. So with PP2.0, this is no longer necessary.

There will be more selling of ships after the next update tomorrow, because I still have several more storage ships that contain engineered PP modules, which also won't be needed because the module storage limit will be raised from 200 to 600, supposedly. We shall see if this happens without bugs.

Is anyone else pruning their ship list due to these new developments?

It'll give me a chance to tidy up a bit too. I don't buy hulls purely for storage but I have a few part-built hulls I stripped components from to build other ships. Also while I'm out in the black with a carrier that has outfitting I don't have any components for sale. It'll be handy to be able to store standard components as well as engineered ones so I can (for example) but an ARX ship from the store & be able to equip it with stuff like cargo racks & fuel scoops I don't currently store to save room.

Not making any changes until after the patch though ;)

I'm proud of you. I did the same in the month or two prior to the introduction of Fleet Carriers. I did not have that many, maybe 16 or 20 I stripped of all the good modules (especially the engineered ones) and sold them just in case I wanted to buy a FC when they came out. I uninstalled shortly after the FC release with 14 ships. Three + years later I reinstalled and had those ships and my credits waiting and ready for a rebirth with O.
Have a great day

Honestly, it always makes me smile when people ask for more module storage.
It always seems like a bit of a "poisoned chalice" to me.
You used to have a dozen stored modules to search through.
Now you have 100-odd (or whatever).

Back in the day, people would say they needed more storage so they could buy something like an Anaconda and then store modules that convert it into an exploration ship, a combat ship, a cargo ship, a mining ship etc.
That was fair enough but, with Credits being the way they are these days, it's probably easier to just play for an evening, earn enough Credits to buy another Anaconda and fit it with all the modules required to make it a dedicated explorer/hauler/miner or whatever.

Another historic need for module storage was for all the half-engineered modules we had.
A lot of effort went into collecting the mat's to engineer a module higher than G3 so we were reluctant to bin them in case we needed them for another ship.
These days, mat's are so easy to find, and engineering is totally predictable, so it's only really worth keeping G5 modules... and then only if you've got a good idea you're definitely going to use it again.

About the only justification for a lot of module storage is buying PP modules and storing them for use on future builds but that can be avoided with a bit of planning;- buy the ship, start doing the engineering, do the PP and fit the PP module straight to it when you can.
Course, I've done the same thing myself;- unlock something like Prismatic shields and then buy half a dozen of every size "just in case" I ever need them.
Except, I've come to realise that I'm not likely to need them.

I guess it's always better to have storage and not need it rather than needing it and not having it but I prefer to just minimise the amount of modules I store.
Get rid of all your half-engineered modules, buy the ships you plan to build and fit modules straight to 'em and you can get rid of all the clutter of stored modules. (y)

True. The other category, which does not contain enough modules to cause a crisis, are those unobtainable one-time items, such as those given out by CG's, etc. Plus, if they are really that good, you have them already installed on a real ship, not a storage ship.

The only modules I bulk bought was the original class C SCO FSDs which I got one of each size and multiples of some sizes.
Before I had fitted more than a couple the mark 2 SCOs came out in different grades, I bought those on an as needed basis sold all the mark 1s and ended up with more storage space.

No storage shios and no PP modules.

Yeah, might be a good idea to wait a couple of days instead of hurrying to do that very first thing after the update drops. Good to wait a bit and see that there aren't any severe bugs that eg. will make all your stored modules vanish or something.

Zactly why it's not done already.

Back in the day we had a single shoe and boy, we took turns wearing that shoe, and it was a worn out shoe, and then it was too small, but it was the only shoe (only the one shoe!) so we had to keep wearing that one shoe - actually come to think, that wasn't even a very good shoe. Sorry - what were you saying?

I'd rather have more ship storage per shipyard than more modules, but I'll be getting rid of some of my storage ships that store engineered non-powerplay modules too. The easier to store PP modules storage ships I might actually keep around in case I decide to defect for whatever reason and need to re-unlock them. I'll keep them in ships to not clutter the stored modules UI.

With the coming of the SCO-adapted new ships. I have sold off all but four ships, out of 10 total. I'm not going to be in a 1st gen ship much. Why would I? One K2 fitted our for mining, and one each of the new medium sized ships built up. That's 'bases covered' I'd say.

I am not precious over items, I cull the numbers readily. I have never come close to nudging any of the caps, and I opted out of PP1, so I don't have hoard modules. I can certainly see the benefit of more storage to the more diligent Commanders out there.

I'm looking forward to the GalNet article talking about massive inflation in the Bubble economy due to the sheer volume of dormant assets now converted back into cash...

Having a "sort by how many years this module has sat unused in storage" option might be interesting.
Possibly followed by the optional text box: "can you describe, in a few words, what you were planning to do with this module?" 🤭

I only have 3 storage Type-10s, so not a very massive hoarder, but I sometimes struggle to recall the reason why I have one specific module there 😆

Well, good job Frontier, but why 600 and not 1000. Anyways it's good and getting rid of many "storage ships" will be relieving. Feeling sorry for anti-storage haters, saying- 200 is fine, you don't need all of that. I don't know how they'll cope with seeing module limit 600 instead of 200 😁

I find it difficult to need more than 8 ships in any form. Out of those 8 I use 2 for 90% of the time. There is only so much time and so many tasks.

I have a Type-6 called something like "Cutter 5A shields", which holds a 5A shield that I engineered in the original version of engineering where you could get random rolls. These shields have the minimum/optimal mass increased enough that I can fit them to a Cutter, something impossible with modern engineering. The whole reason why I have a ship for them is that if I left them in module storage I'm sure I would just sell them by mistake as I can't label them.

Only slight issue is I haven't unlocked the Cutter yet, must do that at some point...
