Welp.

I'm pretty new to the game, been playing since about August last year I think off and on. Saved up 100 Million credits, the most I've ever had. Decided to spend it all on a Python. Until this moment, rebuy cost never was never in my mind. I mainly explore and bounty hunt in my DBX and haven't had problems taking care of pirates and what have you. Took my new Python out to see what it was about, forgot I had cargo inside, and got killed by a few NPCs that all scanned me at once. So, basically I'm out 100 Million credits and now transferring my DBX to whatever outpost I just spawned in.

It's... A really rough lesson to learn. Months of savings just gone in an instance. It showed that if I removed the optional internals I would be positive with a 5 Million credit loan, but it wouldn't let me rebuy. Why? The only option I had was a sidewinder. I would of had with the loan 300k credits leftover. But, it wouldn't allow me to rebuy my Python. So, I clicked the sidewinder.

I'm wondering, what is the most credits you've ever lost in one go?

One explorer Anaconda - bounced off a planet once, twice (totally out of control at this point) didn't bounce the third time....

At least it's less severe than Elite (1986) - Escape pods were optional - without using an escape pod, ship death = wiped CMDR....

Welcome.

Sorry to hear about your loss we've all been there. The rebuy may have required you to sell your DBX to raise the funds, did you see that as an option ?

Did this in a recent new save. Bit off more than I could chew in an E-rated Vulture 😂 100,000,000 credits isn't too hard to come by. I used my DBX to do a spot of Musgravite core mining out of boredom/to see how often you come across cores and made 80,000,000 in a few hours. Money isn't my main focus on my new save but it's always there for you to recoup those losses

I for some reason, though the best time to practice FA off docking was in my cobra with a hold full of rares. And this was in ye olden days when each station would only give you 5 or so.

I learnt 3 important lessons that day. One about momentum, one about varying activities so you don't get bored and finally about rebuy.

Good times.

Yeah and you might well find making the money back, will be easier the second time around, less learning curve.

I thought I was invincible when I first got into Python .. then three quick rebuys cost me my rebuy, if you see what I mean, taught me different! No such thing as an invincible ship but you beat me on the losses scale, been pretty careful on coverage ever since.

Which is why I salute your 'c'est la vie' attitude. Nice one Commander, a big +1 and a good luck o7

Can't remember how much I lost, but it happened in a typical Type-9 shieldless trading loadout. Before the engineers.

Other than that, I've died to players in the most expensive Cutters and Corvettes, but that don't count I guess?

Probably around 350-450 million when I accidentally boosted an almost shieldless cutter filled with LTDs to an asteroid. I had unengineered shields, but tried fighting an NPC pirate wing with a pulse laser or two, was just about to scram but miscalculated the flight path.

It wasn't really the credits though, just the annoyance of flushing a hour of grinding or two down the toilet.

You can make 100 million, legit, in an hour or so now without any Engineering or combat skill required.

This isn't to minimize your loss, but to assure you that you will recover from this and it doesn't set you back months and months. You got this CMDR!

Lost a Cutter with 500+ tons of Platinum once. It really sucked, but it was totally my fault.

I guess I could have sold the DBX. Was kind of flustered in the moment. First thought was "never again am I flying anything but my DBX" so I chose wrong not to sell my DBX.

Man, I can't stand mining. I've tried it a couple times back when Boran was a thing. Think I made 12 Million in an hour or so. That was only to afford an exploration ship which is what I love the most. My DBX is at least the best I can outfit in the core game. I can't play Horizons because I have integrated intel graphics which apparently is a big no, no.

Well, guess it helps that I already have my favorite ship, fully outfitted for me in the core game, the DBX. I was mainly saving up for when I'm able to play Horizons for SRV and other modules I might need. Not sure how much that will cost with engineering and all.

How? I'm guessing from mining or something (Which is very hard for me to do with an overactive mind, lol).

You can explore in any ship for lots of easy credits. All you need is a fuel scoop and a detailed surface scanner and Google "road to riches". You can do Robigo mines passenger loops for huge payouts per-trip. You can even do ABA trade runs once you get a bigger ship.

Trust me, very soon you will view 100 million credits as nothing at all.

Just carry on OP youre doing fine. Dunno why you couldnt rebuy, too late now anyway unfortunately.

DBX is an awesome ship anyway. Youll have a Python again sooner or later, and rebuy to go with it.

Lost 150m explo data once, or a Conda that I didnt have at the time as I saw it.

Lost, or wasted? If the latter, 12 million, twice.
Transferred a ship 800ly and found out it was useless at the new location.

Went to Synuefe area exploring guardian sites with my DBX and choosed to transfer my not-great-at-jumping python 800ly from Alcor to the asteroid starbase (New Hope?) to get more upper ship defenses (PD) against the guarding drones.
When the python arrived I for the first time checked where those hardpoints really were located: Two on top, two below. :-(

Which means the DBX I had with me had been the better ship of choice for Guardian sites right from the start (All 4 PD on the top, size 4 vehicle slot for 2 srvs).
Mothballed the useless (in that regard) python and later returned it into the bubble for another 12million.
Regards, Dirk

I feel your pain!
Out on a distant mining trip I accidentally hit boost and, next thing I knew I was looking at a dead cockpit then the rebuy screen. I lost millions of exploration data and my ship and my cargo.
But seconding what everyone else is saying: go core mining and you'll make it back pretty quick.

Oh, I thought that was like a strictly mining guide, nothing to do with exploration, :p. I'll definably check that out. I mean, if I just go scan earth-likes it's like 500k to 3 Mil per system using eddb.io. Takes a long time but I thought it was alright.

Great thread! At first I thought this was the rage quit of the week thread, but happy to be wrong. My personal worst loss was the rebuy of my Cutter, about 41million cr.

Lol, yeah admittedly, I got mad and immediately grabbed a cigarette. Transferred my DBX with the last bit of credits I had and now sitting at the black hole in system 27 Gamma Cassiopeiae in open play. Never been here before, nice little chill spot close to a small nebula and close to the bubble.

It feels like a total loss now but cash is easy. If you want help let me know.

I appreciate it but I'll be alright. Just going to roam around exploring a bit. Thanks though.

Never fly without rebuy.

Lol, I always see people saying that and I knew that. I wasn't going to be the one idiot that flew without a rebuy. But, low and behold... xD. Totally forgot that was a thing.

I've only done surface mining. I tried some other missle thing once but if I recall correctly it wouldn't let me fire it for some reason so gave up in like 30 seconds, lol.

I've lost a Sidewinder, a Viper, 2 Cobra Mk IIIs, and a Vulture, but had the rebuys, so whatever the rebuy on the Vulture was would have been the most I've lost in the game so far.

It can be tempting to get a new ship or loadout as soon as you can afford it, but best to wait until you can afford the rebuy too. But yeah, accidents happen sometimes.
