Welp.

Worst loss in one go? About 100M in bounties. This was in the ancient times when you had superpower bounties and I held onto a bunch of Imperial ones because I didn't feel like travelling south to cash it in yet. This is so ancient if you know what I'm talking about you know that's a serious amount of BH money back then. I went SRV salvaging (another thing that isn't worth doing anymore) and found 20 gold (Hah! Like anyone would even spit on that now). A wing of FAS and 2 Viper 4s missiled me to death while I was running around in my SRV. And people think the game is harsh now!

Some of us take the credit loss as part of the fun/challenge of the game :D

When you don't have the funds to cover loss it can be a bitter pill to swallow, you have my sympathies op, however credits come pretty easy these days and you'll soon get that Python back along with the value of the experience.

Here's an excerpt from the most recent Speedbowl event where pilots routinely throw themselves towards the ground at ridiculously high speeds and ship destruction is all part of the fun

Press Release: Speedbowl IV - New Grounds
With a weekend of ludicrous speed behind us, the Galactic Speedbowl Association wants to offer a short retrospective of Speedbowl IV - New Grounds, that took place on HR 6164 ABC 2.

Throughout the weekend, 40 pilots found their way onto the leaderboard, submitting over 70 runs, with many more attempting qualifying runs outside the official channels. They were supported by 19 fleet carriers, making the system one of the most valuable ones outside colonized space for a short timespan.

Rebuys for single pilots racked up to well over 80 million credits for some, with the most expensive single crash ever recorded in history being Itsumo Ottoke and his cargo hold of LTDs worth over 200 million credits.

Ordinarily I'd offer help, but I'm on a short Hiatus waiting on a replacement HOTAS, yes I'm that spoiled.

I'm any case the most I've lost was a cargo of 256 LTD back when they were 1.6 million each.

If you want to be space rich my crew and I can help. 100mil is less than one evening of play.

Lost a Cutter full of Low Temp diamonds once.

that was tough to take
Lost a T7 full of gold very early in the game (early 2015) when credits were hard to come by (at least for me). Lost a T9 filled to brim (including the refinery) of LTDs on third interdiction coming into sell station during the LTD boom; that was 1B credit loss and hours of mining. I think the time spent mining was just as hard to take as the credits lost. Hang in there OP.

I understand and I'm not angry or anything. 107 Million credits, to be exact on my loss, is an extreme amount of credits to me having acquired that amount over months. My mining knowledge is garbage at best, and my combat skills... Meh. Exploration is my main income. Since I can't play Horizons it takes me forever to get far out. And if I'm able to get a new laptop any time soon to play Horizons, I don't want to be far away from the bubble so I can increase my jump range and engineer all my stuff.

Oh, and I have no interest getting a Python again, xD.

Thank you, but I fly solo (I mean like lone wolf in open play, not solo in solo play) mainly. I'm not asking for help or anything, just wanted to share probably my most defeated experience on ED yet, lol.

1 Billion credits, o_O. How much time was that? Mining is so boring to me I don't think I'd have the patience, :p.

Also I'm alright, took a trip out to LBN 623 and enjoyed some sight seeing. The Milky Way makes you forget about losing 107 Million credits pretty fast, ^^. I'm not asking for help either, I'll get it back eventually doing what I like doing. Just wanted to see other people's worst single loss in ED and share my quick, depressing story, xD.

No worries mate, if you are having fun all is well.

One explorer Anaconda - bounced off a planet once, twice (totally out of control at this point) didn't bounce the third time....

At least it's less severe than Elite (1986) - Escape pods were optional - without using an escape pod, ship death = wiped CMDR....

That would be a nice optional "iron man mode" for E: D. Give every ship an additional small module slot that contains the escape pod. If you want, you can use the slot for something else, but if your ship gets destroyed, it's permadeath. :sneaky:

Took my new Python out to see what it was about, forgot I had cargo inside, and got killed by a few NPCs that all scanned me at once.

This brought back memories. Same ship too. I bought my first Python after months of hard work and saving and went out and lost mine. The first flight, I just wanted to try it out but i made the mistake of having no re-buy. I nearly quit for good, but a few helpful commanders took the time and gave me some motivation on the forums and a few even offered to drop some cargo canisters off to help me get back on my feet.

It feels like a tough lesson and it is, but please be reassured that you're treading a path that others have taken and with some grit and determination (and a lesson unfortunately learned the hard way) you'll be back stronger than ever.

Worst loss is probably an Anaconda with a full cargo hold. Just lost a Chieftain at the weekend.

Lost 5 billion in goid bonds + a Mamba rebuy a little while ago. Was saving up to turn in at once. Probably woulda been fine if I wasn't absolutely sauced that night lol.

Before then, probably large ship losses in PVP. That's like 40+ million depending on your build.

So true. When I drink and fly I momentarily get better for about 10 minutes. It's like I've been supercharged.........but then comes the dip. Actually "plummet" is probably a better word. I can't get through the mail slot, I shoot missiles at myself and regularly spend 3 or 4 minutes trying to touch down without landing gear.

After my first exploration trip out to the void hearts, galactic center, and back, I was parceling out exploration data over time to build rep and help out with our squad's BGS work. One day I dropped in to a threat 4 signal source to pick up some black box mission targets in the keelback I had been using as a little bubble taxi/mission runner. I stayed in too long trying to get the cargo and got blown up, losing what I think was half (probably more) of all the first discovered/first mapped tags from my first major trip out into the black. The rebuy wasn't in issue but man was I bummed about the data! I had to take a little time off from the game afterwards and almost never fly that ship anymore :).

Worst part is I didn't even want the Python. I was going to use it to mine, trade, and fight. I mined for like 5 minutes and said screw that, sold my refinery and lasers, put weapons on, went out to a mining site in the same system, killed one NPC and then got ganged, lol. If I hadn't bought the beam laser turrets I would of had enough for rebuy. Flew it total for about 10 minutes, lol. At least I had my DBX stored with all modules on it. First time I've ever owned 2 ships at once. Probably why I was a little more reckless upon thinking back, :p.

5... Billion... Wow. I got drunk before one night and left my ship by a star over night after I showed my buddy the game. Forgot to log out and woke up to a rebuy screen, xD. I was about a quarter of the way to Sag A.

Bad news OP, but the good news is you can earn it back in an evening instead of months.

I can't do mining without losing my mind. Or trading, really. Someone else mentioned "The Road To Riches" I'm going to check out if it's exploration based.

OP I may know of a fleet carrier that can take you too a good mining spot. They will even fund you to get a Krait mk 2....:devilish:

Sure! (Can you transfer ships to carriers, lol? Wouldn't want to become... Umm... You know, haha.)

Which ship if you don't mind? And yeah I'd care way more about that than the credits, for sure.

EDIT: Oh the Keelback. Yuck, ^^.
