What 2020 Update "Red Flags" would concern you?

Specifically business practices. I don't think most people have problems with selling paintjobs and cosmetics, other than the price hike when ARX was introduced. This isn't an ARX post though.

The question is, what design/monetization decisions, if any, are you worried about or would concern you if added? If leaks are to be believed, there may be a huge amount of new cosmetics added to the game.

Cosmetics don't concern me. They don't give a player an advantage in the game so I don't care if they don't buy them or buy every one of them - it is their choice and their's alone. No one is forced to buy any cosmetic item nor are they told by FD that said cosmetics will alter and/or enhance gameplay.

Just a beat up thread, more along the lines of 'FD will do something bad, just watch'

Probably one of these.

I spent a lot of money (300€?) on the game in the last three years, still just a pitiful amount for one of my biggest hobbies.
I'd be opposed to pay-to-win content/lootboxes, the rest (cosmetics, pricing of dlc) doesn't interest me.
I'd pay AAA price for the dlc, regardless of the content, because luckily for me it's still peanuts paid for my hobby.

If we talking cosmetics only, then no matter what FD will do, I`m more or less ay OK with it. What I`m not so much ay OK with its adding more ARX like nonsense - aka gold currency that can be easily use to manipulate unaware player to spend more than required.
Any form of DLC (like for example space legs) will be ok in my book as well.
The monetisation of Elite is least of my concerns as far as Elite in 2020 is concerned.

Last I heard the Frontier finances were in good health, so I'm not sure where this has come from.

If it's just another 'what if' thread while we all sit about waiting for the new content announcement announcement, then fair enough, I'll bite.

Red flag for me would be anything in game that's paid for that isn't cosmetic.

A non issue?

Tricky, I don't have a problem with cosmetics provided there are a few options available without paying.

Perhaps things like having to pay to stake a claim to a planet to set down a base. If that becomes pretty core and it is linked to ARX instead of in game progress that seems like a problem to me.

In all cases you can argue in game acquisition of ARX would let you eventually participate but real money would probably what most or many players would feel they have to pay to actual get involved.

So anything that wiffs of pay to win beyond paying for an expansion that'll almost certainly bring players some advantage (like Engineers do now).

Still, you know, I think we should wait and see.

I personally think its ridiculous and super entitled to expect a game to have continous development for years for such a small initial buy in price. No subscription fee, no pressure to buy visual cosmetics. What's the problem again?

You can even earn them for just playing the game now...

Those comments pretty much echo my own sentiments on monetization of players via cosmetics. Paintjobs for cash, or even for arx, is better than subscription fees. I would be royally hacked off if the store started selling loot boxes such as "Disk Drive - 300 engineering data files for 6000arx", but thats pure pay to win and FDev have always said they are dead against that sort of transactions.

I actually came into this thread expecting there to be a discussion about possible disastorously poor implementations of headline features we'd expect in a DLC that has taken at least two years to develop by the time it launches at the back end of this year. I really wasn't expecting a thread bemoaning loot boxes or too many new paint jobs etc. I was expecting to see predictions of angry mobs descending on Cambridge if all we get is "...well its taken four years, but now you can walk from the pilots seat to the SRV, and no you cannot walk anywhere outside that corridor". OR "Look, atmospheric planets, hurrah!" but they were nothing more than the same arid barren moons devoid of weather liquids, flaura or fauna, with some pretty coloursed skybox shading now.

Or the one potential 2020 update that would see me laughing till my eyes popped out, if NEW ERA DLC was just, and only, fleet carriers.... You know, those white elephants we were promised for free in 2017.

I've probably been spending too much time in the "breaking news" thread, but I honestly came into this thread expecting witty tounge in cheek parodies of the release streams etc for New Era done badly. Think of it like a forum version of mock the week, with new era DLC being the topic kind of gig, and you'll picture what I had imagined / hoped for. I was genuinely disappointed when I seen the start of a dust devil whipping up into a salt storm about paint jobs.

Wait, what leaks?
What cosmetics?
Have I missed something?
What have I missed now!? 😫
Quite. Links, or it didn't happen.
What leaks exactly?

The leak references probably mean this stuff

Given the removal of the building and weapon references after the error correction, it seems to suggest we’ll see cosmetics for the same beyond the existing ‘commander, ships, SRVs, fighters’. (It also tallies with the idea of Legs, FPS & base building being planned, IE the bigger ‘leak’ ;))

That leak, other than lego starwars, to this point in time, was very accurate, not long after the leak, planet zoo was announced., then the ghost buster DLC for planet coaster etc etc... I think we all know 2020 is going to be legs and base building, question is, will they be good for the game? By that I mean will the gameplay associated with legs/bases/FPS be done in a way that genuinely adds to the game, like star citizen or will it become another defunct function, like multicrew and or eve's attempt at legs?
