What 2020 Update "Red Flags" would concern you?

Re the OP, I’m totally fine with cosmetics micro-payments for a ‘game as a service’ (presuming ED gets back to being one ;)). It’s the least bad system out there.

Their whole ‘charge AAA game pricing for DLCs’ is a bit more eccentric, but at least everyone can suck it and see this time, now it’s seemingly ‘one big update’ rather than seasonal. If it keeps the game going I’m ok with it ultimately.

I don’t see them diverging majorly from the above. If they do, will make up my mind then ;)

I'm all for legs if done properly, but I'd probably ebay my Kosmosima's if the 2020 update was just a fade to black transition into a thargoid reskinned version of DOOM, without any RPG immersion content associated with finally getting out of the pilots seat. But legs done "right" as outlined in the numerous threads on the topic, including some of the recent "why..." threads, I'd happily pay a AAA title price for it and throw a few arx in the tips jar, I mean buy paint jobs.

I personally think its ridiculous and super entitled to expect a game to have continous development for years for such a small initial buy in price. No subscription fee, no pressure to buy visual cosmetics. What's the problem again?

You can even earn them for just playing the game now...

Where is the continuous development? All I've seen is stop - start.

Specifically business practices. I don't think most people have problems with selling paintjobs and cosmetics, other than the price hike when ARX was introduced. This isn't an ARX post though.

The question is, what design/monetization decisions, if any, are you worried about or would concern you if added? If leaks are to be believed, there may be a huge amount of new cosmetics added to the game.
What is there to worry about? Another "I'm bored, I'll slag FD" post wrapped up prettily in the guise of conjecture...
You are aware that Frontier cannot force you to do anything you really don't want to do?

There is this magical solution to all monetisation concerns, it is called "stop playing" and doesn't cost a penny....

Apologies for how the OP was written. Not trying to beat up FD for cosmetics, they're to be expected. I'm moreso talking about other monetization or business practices, as in what else besides the buy in price of the DLC and cosmetics would worry you.

What leaks exactly?
Wait, what leaks?

As far as content... I would be worried about one extreme or the other. If legs are as barebones as SRV stuff is, it'll feel more like just something else to throw money at but no actual gameplay to go with it. On the other hand, if I'm FORCED to use legs for everything, well, I generally resist when I feel like someone is trying to make me do something I'm not in the mood for. I would like to be able to do legs stuff when I'm feeling it, or just focus on flying or driving when I'm in the mood for that

Nothing. You can't win with frontier developments, there are no olive branches, outward care, nothing nice. You're only harming yourself by thinking. Frontier don't care, they're still working, they're still releasing. Whether it will be good or bad and how fleshed out, barebones is a really a function of luck for us.

From having done both, expect the least if you want to win. Expecting more can only come from frontier developments, not us.

Ie, just expect space legs to be a new menu item in station services and we get telepresenced to a fps corridor map where the last enemy drops 3 engineering mats. We can only be delighted with the outcome then right? Oh and they're selling bases so imagine Jurassic world evolution in a space skin with rocks instead of trees. Don't be excited because if you play the game its really barebones for its genre.

I'm really afraid that there might be base building in the new update, with almost no gameplay associated, but base would be customizable only with paid shop items.
That might be a wake up call for me.

What business practises might they be?
Any monetisation bar cosmetics would probably lose more than it gained as 'pay to win' buffs are unlikely to be well received by many.
What other 'shady stuff' might concern you, as you have asked the question?

Currently none.

In umpteen months time there could be some but as the future is not here yet I refuse to be overly concerned about it.

I have no red flags. As long as I like the game I'll keep playing. If I go off it I'll play something else.

Considering what I paid for the 2015 LEP in addition to the base game, I think actually being entitled – not just having a sense of entitlement – is at least somewhat warranted. I wasn't a Kickstarter or backer. I paid for future expansions in advance. As it turns out, well in advance.

As to the matter of the OP, sorry, I'd rather not speculate. Just really hoping for the best that can be expected at this point.

I just hope VR is still fully supported. Anything else I may moan about details but I will cope with in VR

I'm not worried about monetization when it comes to FDev tbh. Their track record speaks for itself. Cosmetics for sale, but nothing that affects gameplay.

Now, if they come up with this before the release:
"We've done some in-house testing and based on these tests we've applied some changes meant to balance PvP."

That would scare the bejeezus out of me!

Ive been here since 2016 and the game I play today is vastly different than the game I bought back then.

I bought the game just after launch (January 2015) and essentially still play that game for the most part. Since 3.3 the sense of needing to earn money has gone completely out the window, playing as I do I earn cash faster than I can spend it now (I have over 60 ships and take every donation mission I see, and have never mined other than to unlock engineers, before 3.3). I also used to wander around the galaxy, now I stick to explored space where I can still play the game I bought.

I'm not bothered about bugs, everyone makes mistakes & only long-standing mistakes (like the Python Wireframe skin) irritate me.

So my main concern is design decisions that significantly affect the game. Radical changes to the difficulty level (either way) suggest the lack of a long term plan of development.

I'm looking for additional features that add to what's already there in a way that makes sense. If the Devs want to dramatically change core gameplay (again) that's what sequels are for imo.

Yeah, mostly I'm just hoping for further fleshing out and development of the world setting of the galaxy, being able to visit and explore all kinds of celestial bodies and phenomena in more detail, and interact with the cool sci-fi tech societies in contextually compelling ways, i.e., not really spend my time fiddling around with things like the FSS and DSS.

To each their own of course, but I think it's more than fair of me to say that I don't really find that sort of game-play very compelling. I like mucking around in spaceships in space in a game for a reason. and that ain't it.

YMMV
