Friday I finally assembled my refurbished game rig. My Asus rampage extreme black are still going strong with the old i7 4960X CPU.
32 1833 MHZ RAM is also fine, did some heavy OC on them so they actually fly.
New case, new PSU, UPS was also added, water cooling and the GPU 980 TI OC.
Everything was ready, Checklist ready check!
Power on, check!
WT^!$#!^%!$ stuck in reboot loop! calm down, take a deep breath. Go through the check list again.
Power cables correct mounted.. .. Check!
GPU correct mounted .. .. Check!
RAM correct mounted .. .. Check!
Disconnect all but GPU ePCI slots.. .. Check!
Water pump work.. .. Check!
PSU work.. .. .. Check! (yes I did a pre-assembly before putting everything into the case, and it worked)
Hard drives.. ..Check
Change SATA cable, just to be sure.. .. Check!
Possible issues, could be bend pins on the processor, however I know how to install a CPU, Or do I, Hmm (dark clouds over head.)
Naa, this is silly.
Motherboard issues, but but but, it worked when I disassembled the old PC.
Ok, take the dog out, relax no stress breath some nice sea air. (after a long walk, and going through all the wiring in my mind, I found the issue) Yes I bloody ^%#$@ forgot to connect the CPU 8 pin power connector, you [REDACTED]!!!
So after 3-4 beers I was installing windows 7, yes I do not like W10, and on my merry way to wrap it up and connect the HOTAS and TIR and install Voice Attack and and and! JESUS there are a lot of stuff we add over time to our PC, but only when we have to do it from ZERO we found out how much time it take to get it all up and running!
Well, to make this story short, I finally got ED installed on my RAM disk, and yes that really reduce load times, there are non now. and I was beginning to map all the controls when BOOM! the PC died! step dancing jesus! what happened? Yells at wife, "what are you doing?" receive reply from she who must be obeyed, "should I call a technician?" WUT? NOOOO, I'm an Engineer I don't need no Technician! Wife:" but you do remember that time you repaired the dishwasher right?" OMG, why are you always talking about that thing IT WAS 20 YEARS AGO, "slams
door".
Well, after a good RCA, and more beer, I found the problem, the UPS could not handle the power draw from the PC when the GPU was on heavy load.
Now many beers later, most of the system is working, just need to fine adjust and then I can finally play ED again.
What is the moral of this story, well beer is good and more beer is even better
Cheers!
