What about Modified Ships for CG rewards?

We've had quite a few modified modules for CG rewards at this point; why not add a few modified ships into the mix?

Nothing too game-breaking; I'm thinking of upgraded core modules on some of the less-used ships in the game, like the Dropship, Clipper, or Asp Scout.

For example, "As a reward, the top 10% of players will receive a special modified Federal Dropship with +25 armor hardness and +1 Thruster Size."

"As a reward, the top 75% of players will receive a special modified Asp Scout with +2 Distributor Size"

"As a reward, the top 10 players will receive a special modified Imperial Clipper with +1 C6 Optional Slot, and +1 FSD Size."

Ideally, they would target little-used ships, making them more viable but not technically more powerful than their more meta counterparts.

As a reward, the top 10% of players will receive a Type 7 that can be docked with a medium pad

Lol, that would be a bit harder, since it would require changing the model itself. I'm aiming for changes that can happen purely internally without needing to adjust the models and whatnot.

That said, ship kits show it's probably technically possible, but probably not worth it just for a single CG.

People are going nuts for missing a FSD that gives at best 8% more jump range.
And you want that? 😂

Edit:
Addendum: they went nuts for not being able to apply mass manager which would increase the jump range from 5% to 8%

Not sure some of that would be technically feasible, would be like me trying to fit my V8 Scania trucks engine into my Ford Focus.

Well, to be fair, that's 8% more on the absolute best ships for jump distance in the game, which is a pretty big deal.

Buffing the clipper with +1 FSD size, for example, would give it a max jump range of ~65ly. Decent, to be sure, but by no means overpowered.

EDIT: A jump-only build could potentially reach 80ly, but that's still quite a bit less than than a jumpaconda.

Oh, for sure, you'd need some sort of canon fudging. Something like, "This ship utilizes experimental guardian/thargoid/engineered technology to save on mass and size requirements, allowing for greater performance without significant modifications to the hull."

Something like that.

No, not really... it's 8 % to help a paper plane to burn faster :)

Dont get me wrong, i went nuts over if meself.
But those ships you're proposing are ten-fold over that

You sure about that?
Clipper has a 400t hull like... the ... Condaaa
With a size 6 FSD... it will jump.... like... the Condaaa

No, literally it will jump like a Conda. 80ly for an exploration build with shields and a 4G SRV hangar and everything else

Give me an Asp scout that does 90ly and I'll be interested but a +2 distributor is useless for me.

Haha, that's why I thought it would be neat to give to the top 75% of players. That way noobs can get in on the action and get one when it would still be useful.

Personally, I think the 'scout' ships should be basically multirole shuttle taxis/combat ships, useful to players to get around the bubble and then fight, but not so much for actual exploration. Hence the 'scout' moniker, where they're meant to stay somewhat near support ships or stations, while the 'explorers' are designed to travel without external support.

So I'd like to see the scouts buffed in combat terms, while Explorers are better for...exploring.

Hmm, so it would, good call. Still, I don't think it would be terribly overpowered. Equivalent jump range to a conda but with less internals. Especially since it'd only be for the top 10 players, it'd give them something fun to fight over!

Or they could stop running FOMO calendar-limited power-creep reward schemes and instead focus on making stories, mechanics and content that's enjoyable and accessible to all their players regardless of IRL constraints.

Less internals, but the Clippers SC maneuverability? Oh, Cant wait for it

You know that people love the jumpaconda, but they hate its SC handling.
But the jumpaclippa? it would be almost flawless

I suppose instead you could just reduce its hull mass by, say, 150. That would give it about 15ly more jump range, if my calculations are correct, bringing it up to about 70ly.
