What Aliens should populate this Galaxy?

...

That would make it pretty gross for me, as they'd end up just seeming like most alien races in most sci fi.

Humans with strange body shapes and skin colouration. Urg.

The only thing wrong with that way of thinking is that it doesn't appeal to some, but for the general masses it's not too amiss, we can only imagine what Alien lifeforms would look like and think like because we have absolutely no information, and though we may consider ourselves 'civilised' we only have our own 'laws' to guide us along the path...and we could be and probably are very very wrong.
As for the Aliens in pop Sci-fi, they're like that because it sells a story not too far from our own thinking, one that we can relate to, as a species we need to touch home base once in a while to reassure ourselves, so having a human'ish form and a strange mind is only really a human mind and that is understandable and therefore acceptable, after all, the human mind created it.

Coming up with an original Alien idea is always going to be difficult because we're inspired as thinkers, there are very few original ideas, back in my Traveller (rpg) days in the late 70's there were sets of rules to create Alien life, planet size, atmosphere, temperature etc but even those rules were based on what we find on Earth, from our own planet we have piles of different lifeforms and given enough time and the right conditions almost all of them could make it to the top, what could happen on another planet or in the vacuum of space may be unimaginable.

I believe that the plan of defense for an Alien 'visitation' of the Earth is 'NONE' "people should run, hide in small groups and breed to do anything about giving the human race a future"

So hell yeah, I love the fantasy thought of hot green chicks and seductively blue reptilian ladies (as long as they're people sized) out there in space with the view of welcoming cultural exchange with earthlings, it's comforting.

What coincidence, Im asking about that in other thread:

...as there is info in the Pen&Paper Elite Dangerous RPG about alien forms like this:
Capture.JPG

There is equipment, ships, weapons, and lots of things, hoping some of them into Odissey

Books at: https://spidermindgames.co.uk/edrpg/

I often thought how cool it would be to come in contact with a new race that was intelligent and not aggressive. A new race with new items we could open trade with and interact with. Then i remember this is elite and it will still be the same stations and we would just interact with the same screen with different square photo frames.

I’d like to see some Elder Gods in space.
I want to fly right up Azathoth’s cyclopean jacksie in a Beluga (take that, foul fiend), and land on Yuggoth and see how the mushroom people are hanging.
The lore’s already in place, and wouldn’t it be free to use? FDev could insert a couple of bodies and practice honing their planet building tech🙏🏻

I'd like to see dangerous space life in rings.

Territorial exogorth-like rock worms. Big metal eating amoebae. Burrowing beasties to trigger your trypophobia.

Background could be: these things are somewhat known to 34th Century science but have always been mostly dormant (the "why haven't I seen them before" factor), with life cycles in the millennia, relying on supernovae within a few hundred LY to stimulate them from hibernation for a few hundred years on a narrow, local scale, triggering feeding and spawning.

But a mysterious energy pulse in witchspace has awakened them all simultaneously (could be Thargoids trying to interfere with human productivity, or the result of some other Big Bad), and miners across the galaxy now have the chance of encountering a variety of dangerous life forms in ring systems. Not constantly, not even with particular regularity, but often enough to be a consideration. Adding a little spice and danger and uncertainty to mining. And some hornets' nests for explorers and big game hunters to poke.

Nice ideas! And really, why not?
Would it be that difficult to implement?

Well, based on how much content that worked just fine a short while ago being suddenly borked/disappeared with no hope of getting it back in sight, due to what basically amounts to giant mobile space garages being added, I'd say...

I do like the ideas in this thread, though.

Yeah, you’re right😭

Yeah, and one of the devs even talked about "looking forward to when you can find scary monsters in asteroid belts" (or words to that effect) in an early promo video. So it could happen.
But we live in hope!
Tiny things, even suggestions of things being there can make a large difference.

A Galaxy with 400 Billion star systems...and this is all we got?

Technically we have HEAPS of Aliens

Besides Humans, and Thargoids (and what ever Guardian AI still living in the Milky Way of any) we have

Thousands of Earth Life worlds & Water Worlds with Carbon-Water based life
A Good Number more Ammonia Worlds with Carbon-Ammonia Based life
A Sizable number of Gas Giants with either Carbon-Water based life or Carbon-Ammonia Based life

Granted the life could be single celled life, algae, and litchens for a lot of the worlds but from the rare goods and other in game info suggests alot with have "Plants and Animals"

Aside from that we also have

Space dwelling Mollucs:
Bell Mollusc
Bulb Mollusc
Bullet Mollusc
Capsule Mollusc
Gourd Mollusc
Parasol Mollusc
Reel Mollusc
Squid Mollusc
Umbrella Mollusc

Space based plant life
Aster Tree
Gyre Tree
Peduncle Tree
Stolon Tree
Void Heart

The Microbes that form the Space Crystals and Calcite Plates

Planet based
Barnacles, as it is suggested they were something the Thargoids found and engineered
Sinuous Tubers
Amphora Plants
Bark Mounds
Brain Trees
Anemones

The E, K, L, P, Q & T -Type Anomalies could be Sentipart's for all we know

Alien life mentions in Galnet or as Rare Commodities
Giant Irukama Snails
HIP Proto-Squid
Mukusubii Chitin
Uszaian Tree Grub
Mulachi Giant Fungus
Kachirigin Filter Leeches
Verrix
Ling Lang
Baltah'sine Vacuum Krill
Banki Amphibians
Various game animals of HIP10175

And then the Extinct Guardians, and the Aliens of Achenar.

The galaxy is full of life, teeming with it, it is just not much of this life has FTL Star Ships at the same time as humanity

As long as it's not 200 different variations of nose ridgelians I'm open to the idea of some stuff from star trek.

The Borg was an interesting one. The guardian tech loyalists could of in some way fit this, but more blue.

Von Neumann probes from a neighbouring galaxy would be cool if there was some variation to them, like the tyranids but with technology. Holdstocks stuff fits this.

Minor races would bring loads to the game, with trade and BGS competition.

Thargoids need more teeth. Simple.

I'm pretty confident will will get some more alien stuff come 2021. Just please no more nose ridges.
