What Aliens should populate this Galaxy?

A man can dream!

Hmm... actually, yes, this.
very lovecraftian

I can't claim originality on this, that goes to Douglas Adams.

The Hooloovoo resemble a super-intelligent shade of the colour blue. One was seen in a prism for Zaphod Beeblebrox's address upon stealing the Heart of Gold. On certain special occasions, such as the aforementioned Presidential event, they refract into a free-standing prism.
Their home world is a collection of asteroids in one of the far flung arms of the galaxy. They are able to "read" material like books by occupying prisms, including a special edition of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
The Hooloovoo demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the Universe by holding their breath until they turn a deep purple.

What Aliens should populate this Galaxy?

First: I would like to see more of the Thargoids.
1. I want their behaviour to be complex and not just simply aggressive (Perhaps 2 factions?). The behaviour of the ones we have met gives me hope that FDev feels the same about this. I hope to be able to gain their trust and be able to interact with them, trade, take on mysterious missions etc. It would be great if the Thargoids 'remembered' which commanders have started hostilities, and treat them appropriately :).
2. I would like to get access to completely Thargoid owned sytems with complex, mysterious structures on planets, that perhaps even stretch into space, with Thargoid space stations, huge Thargoid battleships, other mysterious alien Thargoid stuff etc.

Second: I would love to see some ancient huge monolithic alien artifacts in space. So huge that we can land on them, or fly into their cavernous interior. I do not need an explanation, or a story. I just want them to be in the game. Let us be in awe of their existence and just let us speculate as to what they represent.

Third: I would like to encounter an alien society so advanced that we are completely ignored by them. I would like their systems to contain giant Dyson spheres. We would be able to land on them and drive around on them. Once in a while we might see some enormous airlock gate open up and an alien craft would exit or enter the Dyson sphere. The aliens go about, doing their business. We are like ants to them, or not even that. They completely ignore us. I would like their systems to contain countless wonderful and mysterious structures and machines that only convey to us an incredible disconcerting sense of horrific alien othernes.

Fourth: I would like there to be a machine intelligence. A species consisting of AI (single or multiple). It does not have to be hostile. I loved the Geth from Mass Effect.

In general I want FDev to open up their imagination to the incredible mysteries that could be in this wonderful game world.

sarcasm /on
I know, right? People actually want do things in Elite other than shoot at other things! Wierd, huh?
sarcasm /off

Don't get me wrong, shooting at alien ships IS pretty cool. But it'd be a lot better if we could do more than that, ya'know?
When FD announced the return of the Thargoids, I immediately wanted to "side" with them. Communication and trading and whatnot (whatever counts as trading for a 'goid, anyway).
But no, just turned into the usual "shoot X, get Y". I cannot be the only one disappointed by that.

Don't forget: when FD implemented the Thargoids, they announced that humanities relationship to them would develop based on how we players would interact with them. And then they gave us only one tool to interact with them: the fire button.

As long as it's not 200 different variations of nose ridgelians I'm open to the idea of some stuff from star trek.

The Borg was an interesting one. The guardian tech loyalists could of in some way fit this, but more blue.

Von Neumann probes from a neighbouring galaxy would be cool if there was some variation to them, like the tyranids but with technology. Holdstocks stuff fits this.

Minor races would bring loads to the game, with trade and BGS competition.

Thargoids need more teeth. Simple.

I'm pretty confident will will get some more alien stuff come 2021. Just please no more nose ridges.
Tyrannids with tech!?
Saints preserve us😇

No more like the robotic version of the tyranids so same idea were they exist as one lifeform able to remould themselves as they see fit and exist to use all matter they encounter to further there goals... of building more of themselves.

Clarke's Rama series could be a good template for encounters with another alien race.

This thread is intended ENTIRELY for fun; and should in no way be considered as a suggestion for actual aliens in ED.

Besides the Humans - who are doing what they always do; spreading out and reproducing like yeast - there are TWO known Alien races in the Galaxy:
The Guardians, who apparently lost; since they're now extinct (making simple data retrieval sites into complex games might have had something to do with that) and...
The Thargoids, who clearly won since they're still here - and BOY aren't we all REALLY glad for that! :cautious:

A Galaxy with 400 Billion star systems...and this is all we got?

I personally envisage a Milky Way filled with complex, interesting and wonderful life - both living and extinct. We have only - to this point - explored a fraction of one per cent of this Galaxy, and the possibilities are ENDLESS. THAT is what drives me out into the black; I want to go LOOK; to turn over rocks and see what is underneath. :)

This thread is for your imagination, your idle speculations, your wishes. What Aliens would you like to find in the dark spaces we have yet to find?
I will start with my own, but there is NO limit, no qualifications or rules. All I ask is that your alien has some connection to reality and physics - at least as much as the Bugs and Guardians do. ;) And yes, a LOT of people will answer with things like "The Planet where we get VR in Oddyssey!" or "The world of unbroken mining!!!!" Compose yourselves. This is not about your issues.
Which Alien would you love to see in Elite Dangerous?
----------------------------------------------------------------
Mine is Sentipart.

Sentipart
is one of my oldest Alien beings; I've been writing totally unsuccessful S-F for over 20 years, and while much of what I write is awful, some is good. Sentipart falls into that category.
Sentipart is a Sentient Particulate - a formless being that cannot be classed in any biological sense.
Sentipart appears to be a jet-black powder; its ultrafine grains black enough to absorb any energy from its surroundings. Each particle can receive and send a single weak electromagnetic pulse to its closest neighbors.
When trillions of Sentipart particles are collected together - such as in a smallish bucket - it is an intelligent, self-aware and curious entity that is willing to trade its services for learning. A mass of Sentipart will spread itself over the bulkheads of a ship, providing instantaneous and absolutely clear communication to all parts of a ship. It will also provide observation based upon its experience, some amusement because Humans have a VERY small world-view that they have a hard time fitting Sentipart into, and effectively make the ship itself semi-sentient, since Sentipart coveres EVERY single inch of the vessel.
What Humans do NOT know - and Sentipart never says - is that each of these small bucketfuls of black powder are part of a gigantic and incredibly intelligent, ancient Entity. This Entity puts out small parts of itself to experience the Galaxy; those parts which FIND data eventually return to share their data with the whole.
That Entity is visible from Earth: we call it the Coal Sack Nebula.
Humans Have NO idea that the dark cloud is intelligent, and WATCHING them; inserting parts of itself into Human culture to gain better information.
It is largely benign - the Coal Sack (as we call it) only wants to learn, and observe. BUT...if it ever decides to act...
I'll let you imagine what would happen if Sentipart became hostile.
;)
(And in my story - it does. It's pretty gruesome.)

That is MY Alien I'd love to see in ED. What is yours?

the problem with there being more aliens is actually the thargoids they're a very VERY ancient species that are extremely territorial I have a theory the reason why humans have only come across them and no one else is that the thargoids have been wiping them out one by one over the course of galactic history.

for all we know they are the original organic species in our galaxy similar to the leviathans in mass effect 3 and if they aren't they're at the very least most dangerous species that achieved space flight and killed all their rivals excluding the guardians the only race to actually defend themselves successfully and us and for all we know they've been getting ready to wipe the bubble out for years lore wise (gameplay wise the devs are lazy and don't flesh out the game)

I'd like to thank everyone for such wonderful responses - people have fantastic imaginations and I'd so love to see many of these ideas in the game.

This one got me thinking - and it's one thing I would love to see.
I'm sure many here are Homeworld fans, and one of the most mind-boggling scenes I've ever seen in SF gaming is the Graveyard at Karos:

ss00262.jpg

While not quite a Dyson Sphere in size, since the dominant star is outside its shell, the structure the Graveyard is built into resembles a sphere of colossal proportions - large enough to hold several planets and moons. It is either destroyed or never completed and provides an awesome (in the proper sense of the word) sense of titanic desolation.

I WANT THIS IN THE GAME!!!!

Not the Graveyard, of course (we have enough trouble getting Tionisla in there) but this kind of thing - vast, majestic, something that to view would be like an ant crawling into the Rose Bowl.

Siiiigh - could you imagine it?
:)

(And for the record I'm still holding out for sexy blue babes. 😁 )
