Op- Vlasovas, the new system is an improvement, it gives you transparency on what your actions will achieve and you can actually earn more than before,
or increase your standing
or influence faster than the previous system allowed. It's a lovely addition to the game and really delivers on the promises made to address core game mechanics in a positive, enjoyable manner for average players.
I'm genuinely sorry for you if you can't see that.
My suggestion is to make the most of your limited game time by doing the things that you enjoy doing in the smaller ships. I've played almost every ship in the game and they're all good at something. You don't have to be making a ton of credits or racing up the ranks to have fun. You'll get a much greater sense of achievement exploring in a hauler or dogfighting in a Diamondback than you will swanning around in an Anaconda!
It might help to remember that the game scales it's rewards as you progress through ship sizes- you'll earn more in a Cobra than in your Sidewinder, more again in a Python, then the credits just pour in with your Anaconda. It takes a bit of effort to earn the bigger ships, but probably not as much as you're imagining.
The hardest 'grind' I faced was getting to the Cobra III. Not because it took any great effort, rather that I wanted the ship so badly it physically hurt!

I spent my teenage years tearing up the joint in a Cobra, I
needed to earn another one! But even three years ago, when rewards were a fraction of what they are now, it didn't take long to get my grubby paws on my beloved Cobra.
Once I had her, instead of carrying on the grind, I went out and played the game. I tried the various different things on offer (far fewer than today) and was delighted to discover the multitude of features the game has. I like mucking around with the BGS, it fits my vision of the Pilots Federation being Machiavellian nomads, the kingmakers and puppeteers of our far future fantasy. What I had to infer and discover by trial and accident is now (mostly) up there on the mission board. Progress is a wonderful thing!
Good luck with your game mate, hopefully you can achieve what you're wanting to fairly quickly. Try rooting around the forum; there's a lot of good advice around on everything from making credits to the best way to outfit your ship to suit your play style.
See you in the Black...
