What annoys me a little about exploration

Like I said it's the homogenous nature of the stellar forge that gets me. Even in reality there must be bodies out there that have huge amounts of various elements. I'd have thought FD could have programmed in a tiny chance of spawning something like a 15% polonium planet or a 20% cadmium planet etc etc. The amounts of the various elements seem to be locked behind very tight ranges of occurrence for each individual element.

Maybe I'm being a bit "gamey" in wanting to see something beyond the "norm" now and then.

its not about the percentages, certain planets offer a "substantial" prize if harvested in the correct way ;)

I don't mind oddly 'low tech' or realistic projections of tech or something in between. I think what makes people sigh or raise an eyebrow is it's not consistent. Let's face it, Star Wars is in many ways quite low tech as is, in many ways, the new Battlestar Galactica. So there is nothing wrong with going 'oddly low tech put to now' as long as it's artistically consistent.

But it's not :)

That telescope is also from Argos, its not even a technologically advanced telescope, its mass produced and labelled as a "toy"

Mars is an average of 1,200ls away, the image on the left is taken from someone's back garden a few years ago

you can also Google a cracking planetary image of Pluto, admittedly its from a "probe" up close (12,500km) but it's effectively the same technology in 3303 as 2017, but somehow we managed to create the frame shift drive ;) as a comparison we used to cut holes in peoples heads to let the evil spirits out when they had headaches, and some people still thought the earth was flat in 1017 let along had a telescope to look into the stars

I know its a lost cause but I really don't understand the "realism" argument as a FSD don't exist but were quite happy with that, if anything its unrealistic we don't have a better ADS due to tech available today, anyway I've waffled on far too much and each to their own and all that.
I think you underestimate how advanced the ADS is. When you honk, it gets an image, mass, radius, orbital period, semi major axis, of presumably EVERY body in the solar system instantly, including those hundreds of thousands of ls away. We've been gathering information about our solar system for centuries, but you can go in and get that instantly. The DSS provides more details at a much closer distance, also in just a few seconds. That's not what our probes do today. Sure if you just want a picture... Also keep in mind the DSS does get a detailed scan on both sides, very detailed. To compare, look at what the cassini space probe did for Titan over the course of years:

You seem to think because it's not the job of the ADS to make a fully detailed 3d rotating map of even the opposite side of the planet from where you are, of all planets in every solar system, that's it's only as equally advanced as our probes today. That is not the case.
