What comes after 1.2?

I dont know what will come in 1.3 but it NEEDS to be a few of these:

I think they were looking at this as a possibility but haven't confirmed it. I think it's low on their priority list.

Two new ships

Seems like they've been doing at least one of these for every major update, so I wouldn't be surprised If they kept that trend.

Overhaul of the mission system to create more chained missions, more crowd sourced missions, more immersive missions and getting rid of the terrible randomised USS system

Personally I think a mission overhaul is dr
Better bounty hunting mechanics - its the only fun thing in the game but you need to be able to intercept and track people around the galaxy with clues etc

I want them to give love to the other professions.

More personality in the missions screen/communications/loading bays - people to talk to, people and vehicles milling around etc - game is soulless.

I think this is all planned to be added gradually as they get closer to walking around.

I believe they wanted to implement this, but it was too difficult.
Better trade information screen including historical data

I'm sure they'll improve that as they go.

Comets and rogue asteroids would be good

I,think there are comets, but they appear as uss's and when you drop into them there's nothing there. I also think they're very rare.

I would like to see:


  • Interactive NPC comms : context-specific chatty NPCs (in a Tourism system? Comms chatter from passing shuttle: "Are we there yet?" "No." "Are we there yet?" "No." etc.)
  • More variety of station environments : & of the voice announcements. More taylored to government + economy types and security rating.
  • More "stuff" in high-population systems : orbiting hab complexes, huge orbital infrastructure, etc.
  • Busier Core systems : Capital Class ships parked up next to, or garrisoned at starports above politically important worlds.
  • Organised trade convoys : small fleets of T9s with Corporate logo livery arrive / depart big stations, as well as the usual lone-trader NPCs.
  • EVA work-crews : NPCs making repairs to station structures.
  • Visible aurora in atmospheres.
  • Customisable cockpit interiors.
  • A believable in-universe reason to go to the Nav Beacons! Why are NPCs even there? Are they farming bounties too..?
 
Although it might sound strange, personally I would like a paid-for DLC after 1.2. The reason for this is purely mercenary; I bought the lifetime pass option when I purchased Elite back in beta, and at some point I really want to feel as if that was worth it. So far, not so much.

But if it is a non paid-for update, then as a current explorer, I really would like some nuance added to those game aspects that explorers would benefit from, for example:

Better, longer-range surface scanners for larger ships (so you don't have to fly so close)
With the above, more variation in the scan results, e.g. Scan from a distance, analyse the scan, see some evidence there might be surface or sub-surface minerals or metals, and fly closer for a better, deeper result- then when you return, Companies bid for the data, based upon your reputation and status.
Far-flung outposts, way beyond the populated systems, but rare enough they are interesting. Docking available and rares you won't find anywhere else, but you have to decide if risk / reward is worth it as possibly illegal. Or sent on missions by those stations to scan distant suns and return for a bumper payout.
Super-nova systems; get in, scan and get out again before BOOM! Sell data to scientific research facilities.
The galactic map- remembers FASTEST routes setting, and your last planned course.
A key mapping to re-select the last plotted route jump point automatically. Planned jump points stop disappearing from navigation screen after system scanning please.
Galactic map has better colour codes, shows explored vs undiscovered systems (possibly via a ship upgrade)
Button o' random, press this on the galactic map, will plot a route to a system which has been voted as of special interest, black hole, etc, by other commanders. Could have a button 'o death / conflict as well!
Local broadcast within your instance, attract like-minded explorers to join as an exploration wing.

I guess I want everything! Fascinating to speculate, FD can do so much with this game, I hope they get given the chance!
 
Probably lots of little stuff.

But the big landmark imho is surely passengers so stuff that is started can be finished.

Whilst their at it maybe a little pilot model to go in the ships. Empty cockpits are creepy.
 
Major additions I expect next:
- Missions overhaul...
- including passengers and...
- military rank-progression missions.
- THARGOIDS!

As long as the aliens are not implemented, I don't expect a payed expansion; they simply belong into the base game. I am in no way concerned that they are currently missing, but I think FD will deal with the loose ends before they move on to new goals.
