What did you though when you saw the name Planet Coaster ?

It was in the night they showed the trailer for the first time at E3. I remember being awake till 3am because I know they would show something there (it was only a rumour).
It sounded much better than its original name Coaster Park Tycoon (I was already following the game since that announcement of Frontier did about the wanitng to do the game and giving only the name for it), and now it works even better within all we have seen from the game.

RCT4 is already a mobile phone version of the Tycoon games, but it is pretty naff. That is why Atari went with RCTW.
But as we all know, Planet Coaster is the next generation Theme Park Game that will be the future success of this genre.
Don't you dare talk about RCT4/RCT$!! [haha][haha]

TBH the trainer did'nt do anything for me as I was'nt a fan of the cartoony graphics and I was expecting a MMO style game, but pre-ordered the game in Nov as I have alot of respect for Frontier, for what they did for Elite and PC gaming.

Fast forward to March, played the RCTW EA after pre-ordering it, and although it's crap, it got me hankering me to play PC as it had good feedback, Paid for the Alpha and it Wowed me like Elite did a couple of years back, The graphics so much suit the series as you need to have to element of fantasy in Theme Park games. It's a perfect start IMO, you can mess around without the management side to get you creative juices flowing. [big grin]

First time i heard of it was when i saw the animated trailer, thought it looked cool but nothing really more as it was no gameplay but decided to check it out later. And im glad that i did!

The first time I've heard about it was on the RCTW forums...the release of the trailer...and I loved it. It was after atari pushed out their trailer, which they had praised as it would have been "the godfather" of all videogames...yeah...it was nott...not even "the godfather 3" - by far not! The trailer for PC really gave me a grin and a happy feeling - I was sure: This will be the RCT successor we have been waiting for!

First trailer I thought was crap. Specially since while I did enjoy RCT3 I can't say it still fully lived up to expectations so I can;t say I was hopefull for the game.

Then the dev videos came out and I got on the hype train.

Then I played Alpha and the train has no breaks.

I was Googling "RCT4" for a decade and when i realised it was a mobile version i gave up.
Then i tried again a while later, searching for "RCT4 PC Version".
Of course, quite by accident, that lead me to "RCT vs Planet Coaster" discussions, which i dismissed at first, thinking "oh dear, not another wanna be".
Then i saw a post saying PC was by Frontier, and i hot-footed it over here and haven't left.

I was pretty darn excited when I saw that Frontier was doing PC on its own. After all, I was a fan of RCT3.

I was kind of against it when I first saw the name!
I remember being excited for RCTW and seeing on their fb page a comment saying "Frontier are making their own game too" and wasn't really onboard after I had seen the first trailer, the trailer at first, when those pieces of path come down looked very RCT1'ish, and I didn't like the look of the characters, at the time I was saying they're very "RCT3.5" because of their dotted eyes.

Some months passed and I noticed RCTW were not doing so great, their trailer looked pretty terrible, and they started showing off some new screens and I was still on board with them, after their odd streams where the diving coaster went up around a turning that had no lift hill, I started to lose hope with it, RCTW posted some more stuff, showing off the twister and the "pendulum" and I noticed that the ride physics were pretty terrible, but thought that RCTW had the better coaster builder, because in the first few dev diaries of Planet Coaster, the track pieces seemed to be pretty short (still am hoping they'll have a longer option)

I think it was the "Interior" designer when I became more of a fan, because I started to notice how much character the guests had, all the builing pieces, the way buildings and "facilities" worked, and gave up on RCTW after seeing that the game had a terrible build, bugs, bad animations, and unnecessary large rides (like that topspin of theirs, why does it take up that much space?) the first Planet Coaster Live Stream had me on board, they mentioned the coaster was a bit wavey and the builder was unfinished, and then on the 2nd live stream we saw that you can "tweak" parts and it had a smoothing option, the smoothing option turned me completely, as I had seen a few videos and saw that coasters weren't very smooth, and now, I'm a fan and looking forward to the full coaster builder.

I've lost faith in RCTW now, seeing as Planet Coaster seem to be doing everything right, and the amazing videos we've seen has proven what this game can do, I am hoping we'll see block breaks and multiple trains eventually, and multiple stations, I actually saw in a few images today when I was looking for something to use as a desktop background, concept art of the "operater shack / shed" for the mini ferris wheel, and also in concept art where a coaster's station had gates, kind of hoping that the cat walks will be changed to steps soon, though I'm not against this ramp type catwalk.

This game is the real successor to RCT, seems as if RollerCoaster Tycoon is just a name now.

was waiting since a long time for rctw.
watched videos of it on youtube when it was finally released just to be totally disappointed.
still made it to the comment section on steam.
read everywhere "buy planet coaster instead".
back to youtube.
found silvarett's videos.
bought planet coaster!

A story with a happy ending!

I played the wad out of the first 3 RCT games, but I knew that 1 and 2 were Chris Sawyer. and he was a consultant on 3 but i don't know just how involved he was.

So When I learned about the next games, RCTW and PC I had no real loyalty to either. I had higher expectations for PC honestly because they had everything they learned through RCT3 and expansions and they worked with Sawyer to some degree as well. RCTW had Atari. But having a Studio is meaningless. Movie Studios put up money for sequels all the time but when none of the original players come back it might as well be a completely different movie or game.

So when I was comparing the two, obviously the horrible state of RCTW ruled it out for now. But, even if all the bugs we fixed. [ugh] There are just decisions they made In RCTW that just turns me off. I'm hoping that PC continues to live up to the expectations they have built because I'm invested now. Basically, the management side remains to be seen, but if it's an improvement over the past I should be happy. I know that RCTW has gone down a road that has completely lost my interest except in the can't stop watching a train wreck way.
