Newcomer / Intro What do these mean on the MISSION BOARD?

What do these things mean on the MISSION BOARD?

  1. First of all what does it mean that one of the local factions is always separated off to the far left? (Yet is may have really low influence?)
  2. Secondly, what doe the 'star icon with a couple of orbiting planets' mean next to influence? (highlighted below)
  3. Thirdly, how can I answer these quesitons for myself? (I can't find anything in the pilot book, I mean there must be offcial frontier sources for this surely?)

Many thanks.

Also,

What relationship does the power (blanked out in yellow) have to the station controlling minor faction (blanked out in pink)? (If any?)
many thanks.

Most left is current faction who controls the station. They will change in response of the players' actions.
All "unnamed" stuff, like selling cartographic / bio data, killing pirates, pirating, trade / black market trade will directly affect this faction.
Each faction is aligned to some super power or not-aligned to any. Which means working for / against such faction will rank up/down you with super power standing.

Star - is federals sign.
3. Well, just look close :D

If you get "too bad" relation with super power - all its factions will hunt you.

The other federal local minor factions don't have that next to influence?
It must mean something?
So is that icon different for other systems with other aligned controlling minor factions?

Power is a silly game where "influence bubbles" can be extended over groups of systems. If a system comes under such influence it is shown as such, even if it makes no sense at all.

Why all the secrecy? Blanking out the system name made this harder to answer. And you weren't thorough enough, I guess I won't name the system, but finding it and the Gateway helped me answer:

The faction to the left owns the station, not necessarily the system.

The Powerplay owner is not related to the minor factions.

The star in the purple circle is NOT the federation symbol, I don't know what it is, so it's probably not important.

Thanks all! (Well at least its not just me that doesn't know)
Guess I'll keep pretending I'm doing the thing! (irrespective of what I'm actually doing)
I have a feeling its got something to do with 'boost' or 'bonus' or 'boom'. But I've no idea what I once saw that is making me think that.

You must be new here. :)

There is a manual, but it's years out of date.

Frontier basically doesn't tell us anything. It's up to the community to figure stuff out and share the info.

So, if you figure it out, be sure to post it for the rest of us.

The main point is that none of it really matters. Wherever you are, if you do stuff for the station, like kill their pirates, sell stuff to the, do their missions, give them data, etc, they'll start to like you and give you better missions. That's how you make bucket loads of cash from doing certain types of missions in certain places, like Robigo passenger missions, Ngalinn pirate massacre missions and Cubeo mining missions.

You need high Federation rank to get the Corvette and high Empire rank to get the Cutter. Those military ranks increase a bit each time you complete a mission for any faction that has the Empire or Federation symbol next to them. All factions are one of Empire, Federation or independent. Empire and Federation are called superpowers. There's another weird rank with the superpowers that goes up and down, but doesn't mean anything, except you have to get one temporarily high to unlock an engineer. It's basically how much they like you. When you work for them, it goes up, and when you rest, it goes back down. You mustn't confuse it with the military ranks, which only go up.

When you do stuff for anybody, it has no negative effect for you, with one exception. If you fight in a a conflict zone against the main faction, your ranking with them will eventually turn to "hostile". That will make the station turn red and you'll get blown up if you come to close to it.

If you fail to complete any mission for a faction after accepting it, your rank with them will go down.

In summary, there are ranks withe each faction, ranks with the superpowers, and Powerplay ranks, as well as your own ranks for trade, combat and exploration. You can even sign up to Inara and get a load more ranks for all sorts of things. You can influence which faction and superpower controls a station by doing stuff for them. Powerplay is separate, and it's about which politician controls what area of space. You don't need to worry about doing anything for the wrong side, except fighting in a CZ. When you kill pirates, everybody loves you except the pirates, but even they don't bear any grudges.
