what do you guys think about a carrier style ship that uses combat drones?

i for one would love a ship like that however i could see it being OP if the drones didn't have an effective way to be dispacted maybe point defenses could take them out? or possibly have small imperial fighters (if you are empire) to act as support ships when assaulting enemies.
 
Say Hello to Eve ;P, Honestly i really would like to see more different ships, also Capitals (I guess we will get something in that case who knows?), but drones? Well.. i think i wouldnt like it
 
The anacondas has this aspect in it's description, being said to be able to carry some sidewinders.
But the Ai is lacking for that task, i don't think it would be too effective.
 
Only if point defence can shoot your drones and you cant mount any weapons.

It would ruin combat completely. Unless its sidewinder sizes and up.
 
I'd like to see a player owned anaconda being able to pilot our own sidewinder oit of the hold and the AI tacking over the anaconda until you redock. That would be cool.
 
of course it would have to be lightly armed however be able to carry either AI drones or sidewinders or eagles MAYBE a viper for heave bombing of big targets. about 5-10 all together, 3 class 2 and 2 class 1 weapons. also have its manueverability be low and slow, the point is to use the drones or small ships. basically it would do well on a 1v1 being able to swarm a target however if your going against a anaconda or eagle you will have trouble due to being too heavily armored or to much agility respectively.

of course the carrier would have to have either high shields and low armor or low shields and high armor, for balancing sake.
 
Mhmm, I loved my Split Panther in X3/TC/AP, it was fast, had quite a nice punch (Incendiary Bomb Launchers FTW) and could carry 20+ fighters, but somehow I can't quite see something like that in E: D. At least not as a player ship.
 
The problem I see with drones is that they remove the requirement for player skill. If the drones were manually piloted, I'd be cool with it.
 
Once we get better Multiplayer tools and features, I'd love to see a player controlled Carrier, a mobile station with a couple of landing pads, which each house up to four ships. so up to eight players could dock with it, and this then in turn transport them to wherever the action is. the Carrier would of course have plenty of hard-points for a variety of weapons and gadgets. And would cost an arm and a leg - and then some.

In short, a proper player controlled capital ship :)
