What do you like? Fxed or gimballed?

Every time I load fixed weps I get jumped by a wing of 3-4 Eagles and can never use them. I have turrets on my larger ships and gimbals on the small - medium ones. They do less damage, but hit more often. A good trade-off for me.

Oh yeah - whatever works for the pilot is what's right I should have perhaps added that my favourite "all fixed" loadout is for beams on a Corvette throwing out about 200 dps. You don't need much of a strike on a Eagle for the toaster to pop. And of course bigger ships aren't too hard to hit. The Corvette is more than maneuverable enough for that.

Every time I use gimbals it's chaff, chaff, chaff. Yet when I pack fixed npc's never seem to chaff. How do they know that?

Deselect the target and gimbals turn into fixed. When the chaff wears off (count to seven) re-engage the target lock. Sorted.

I have finally moved onto fixed weapons almost exclusively. Lasers and rails - longrange. Fixed is just plain more fun, in addition to being more effective when used correctly.

Both... I like gimballed lasers and multi cannons, but fixed Plasmas and Rails lol.

When I'm trailing another ship, I can concentrate more on flying with gimballs... and keep firing them while lining up plasma shots. [up]


I did get flamed for asking for gimballed plasmas... "just give me an I win button... blah blah blah... git gud... blah blah blah". I do quite well with Plasmas and Rails actually, just not so good running duel mediums on the Clipper... I figured if they wouldn't fix the poor convergence, maybe they'd give me those.

Over all i prefer gimballed so i can concentrate on my flying. My aim is quite good with fixed lasers i cant use them against fast little ships like eagles

Nothing is more satisfying and effective than hosing down shields with a fixed beam or taking out power plants with fixed rails/plasma accelerators.

Nothing is more frustrating than wasting time trying to swat one little Eagle or SLF with fixed anything while the big-ticket Anacondas/Cutters are getting away.

So my answer would be "depends on what I'm shooting at" or "having both to cover all bases".
