What do you think DB meant by this?

There already are... ;-)

I hope he isn't just talking about the Voyager probes.

Oh that Braben fellow he's such a tease...

Exploration - Something else than nebulae, stars, planets and rocks out there?

To the question "When will there be non-celestial things to discover in deep space?" (Posted by SlackR), David Braben (Chairman & Founder) answered "There already are... ;-)".

and to "I did say "deep" space... Those probes are still in the sol system so I'm hoping he meant other things to find!", David did confirm "Yes. Other things...[...]has been there since Wings...".

Damn, I have never heard anything about that!
Has anybody of you, Commanders, already discovered/encountered such things? If you have and for some reason believe their locations should remain a secret (please don't tell me these are in Unidentified Signal Sources you may sometimes find... :), I believe the community would appreciate to get a few hints as of how/where to search for them!

PS: I am posting here since I believe David will not provide more details in the thread, specific to powerPlay, where these were originally mentioned.

I once found an unidentified signal source out at Rigel (not very far from civilized space but far enough I shouldn't have found a signal) inside the signal was a single cobra NPC named nexus that seemed to have no purpose. I wish I had a cargo scanner on me to see what he had.

David Braben:

Ooh this is intriguing. I love this sort of stuff!

One of the things i loved about the original Elite was space dredgers. I searched endlessly for one but of course there never was. Point being though that i also love the idea that there may or may not be things to find out there and unless you go and have a look then you'll never know!

I did stop to some USS and was surprised to find a T-6 with an escort of Sidewinders...I was about 1000 Ly from inhabited space...let's say that they were either lost or wanted to drop some nasty toxic waste far from any witnesses... :-/
As for the scanner, if there are things out there, they should be meant for explorers only...and who would equip a cargo scanner (or KWS in hope of finding the most wanted guy of the galaxy!) for an exploration trip?

I hope he didn't just mean Voyager
I believe he did not since these were told:

I know one thing that is out there and you didn't list: Explorers :p
Well, for my last trip (got 6000 Ly away) I played online hoping to meet some and text them "Drop your cargo or die!" as a joke. :p And...I did not meet anybody...

This is probably the main thing I took from the AMA.
I was starting to think that the universe outside of occupied space was simply a random generated set of worlds from a template, it's nice to know there may be other interesting things out there.

It could potentially mean a great many things, but it's good to know the dedicated explorers will be the first to find out. If they make it back to spill the beans to the rest of us in one piece.

While I am greatly enjoying the stars, planets, nebulas and stellar remnants out here.... that piece of news is the most interesting thing I've heard about this game in a long time!... even better than the Imperial Courier! :)

No idea, but I'm off exploring all weekend just in case I find something.

Don't worry, I'll take my box brownie with me, just in case ;)

Whats the sitrep on galaxy exploration? Whats the current percentage explored? I should imagine its quite high by now
