What do you want from space legs?

Sort of a shower thoughts thing here and might be venturing into FPS territory but I'd quite like a mission to drop troops off/pick them up on the ground. Give the Fed Drop Ship something to do.
An planet surface combat zone if you will. You could just fly air support or just do ground support (SRV) or go on foot and enter a base (capture the flag or attack/defend), I was thinking more golden-eye/Star-Trek online than COD type of shooter game play, if you choose it.

Other wise I'd like to explore abandoned outposts/ships looking for data points, or just get out of my ship and enjoy a new perspective on the scale of the ships/SRVs.

That sounds like an awesome idea! I could picture flying down to a planetary surface with my load of troops, dodging incoming fire, ships exploding around me. I'm picturing a planetary assault scene from Star Wars episode 2 or 3 where clones were being brought in on drop ships.

(Look right ;))

All of all, in my book the best space legs can add to the game are:

1. Some new exploration features. New things to find, interesting places to get to.
[Although we can also use plenty of new things to find in the existing gameplay, be it in space or on a planets surface. No need for legs for that. ]

2. A social environment. The game has radio stations, etc. (By players for players. ) But a number of people in spaceships, either all docked or all having to watch their back all of the time, don't really make the best party. By providing actual social space, with people moving around in human shape, which they generelly are more familiar with when socializing, might really add a new layer to the game.

Thnx for the trip down memory lane. I remember being so happy I finally figured out how mining worked!

Ontopic: Meh spacelegs.. Game is fine without legs
Game was fine when it first released too, it was fine before planetary landing arrived too. But all those updates and the expansion has added things that make the game better. Hopefully space legs will do the same.

Just curious, for those that have expressed a desire to have the ability to wander around a planet on foot and collect mats etc - how will you carry them back to the ship? Will we have to purchase a little wagon or a wheelbarrow? As for scanning beacons, will we have to purchase and then carry the necessary scanning equipment to perform the task?

Or will it all be ….. M A G I C :D

How about a limpet that follows you around to Hoover up all the goodies

As long as we get space feet as well. And some pants. Wouldn't want to walk outside my ship without some space pants. :)

That's probably one of the better solutions but would need some serious thought. Does it only act like the current limpets and pick up one object at a time then return it to the ship? If so that would mean you can't dismiss your ship nor move too far away from your ship (can't remember the distance but doesn't the ship Auto-dismiss if you move too far away from it now?). The only real solution is apply the good old FD Magic and have it pick up as much as you like.

Personally I wish they would get rid of the FD Magic in the game .......

I found that most of my interactions with the new players were during the SRV activities (Guardian sites, "mat" bases like Dav's Hope etc) or at the space ports while staying at landing pad. Well, not all that meetings were fine, griefers are also players, but I really seldom see a random player saying "hi" when passing by in open space while it is absolutely common when we are on the ground. I think spacelegs will give us a new scale: smaller distances (close-up to the objects), slower speed (so we have time to notice the details) and it would boost the social side of the game even if FD will not add the space bar.

On foot planet exploration could be quite cool if you could set up a "tent" with breathable athmosphere in it. You move away with the SRV as usual. The SRV transports the tent and the equipment needed for the activities, and the ED version of the Boston Dynamics Mule you need to carry the heavy stuff around ( materials you carry, oxygen reserves, and so on ). When you are at the location you "plant the tent" and carry the Mule around.

I'd like to experience something like that. Fdev should implement the "need" for this kind of activities, like some kind of resources that can be gathered on foot only, or some kind of surface exploration data. Also some kind of resource management, like radiation exposition, having to manage surface temperature ( too hot / cold ) to survive in the open. Mule battery level and so on. Solar panels to recharge stuff... need for water and food, based on time spent away from the ship and amount of work done.....

Esploration / survival... i'd like that. A lot.

I am starting this thread since the other one focuses too much on FPS style gameplay, which results in too many pointless discussions in my opinion.

Well here is what I want from space legs and I realise that it's probably too much...

  • Walking around ships / stations / outposts / surfaces
  • Meet and interact with NPCs (both generic and handcrafted, Tier 2 NPCs anyone?)
  • Survival elements (although I hate most current survival games I would absolutely love to fix things inside and outside of my ship)
  • Gathering surface / biological samples for science
  • Infiltrating outposts and NPC ships Deus Ex / Mass Effect style. It doesn't need to be as sophisticated with tons of RPG elements and character specialisation but it would be awesome to have non-lethal ways.
  • Using weapons should be possible but I don't want to see hordes of enemies like you would expect them in Doom or CoD. Firing a weapon should be a carefully made decision which does involve consequences.
  • Most importantly, petting my cockpit cat and watering the plants

I also want some of those things, especially walking around ships and stations :-D

And while I get not everyone likes FPS combat, I think they should add it for those who would like it.

It can be added to some locations, but not all - like to some of the Thargoid structures.

Yeah, yeah, I know some people will argue and argue that their FPS combat shouldn't be in the game - but who cares? (I don't)

I didn't want a pink paintjob or weapon colors, but I'm not "ranting" to have them removed from the store (lol) since I support game-play diversity in the game, even if they spend time adding features I won't use but other will :)

Variety - it's the spice of life!
