What do you want to do in Planet Zoo

With drawing more ideas came up and I also seem to have the species list for the "central plaza" now. Currently a total of 40 species and already some ideas for expantions, but will also depend on if my PC likes the size of this idea.

Nights of Africa
Egyptian fruit bat
Aardvark

African Desert
Puff adder
Sand cat
Desert horned viper
African spurred tortoise

Asia
Asian water monitor
Giant Forest Scorpion
Giant Malaysian Leaf Insect

South America
Cuvier's dwarf caiman
Red eyed tree frog
Golden poison frog
Lehmann's poison frog
Titan beetle
Amazonian giant centipede
Goliath birdeater
Yellow anaconda
Boa constrictor
Brazilian salmon pink tarantula
Brazilian wandering spider

As you can see only one "normal" exhibit animal, but still a small one. For both the snakes I want to create two double exhibits, giving it the idea that the can enter the 2nd exhibit as well, to make it look bigger. So besides Africa the idea is to keep it small with a path with a lot of curves, creating the ilusion that it is a big building.

With finals coming up I have been super busy, so I haven’t really had time to play. Also due to traveling I’m not bringing my Laptop with me this break, so I won’t be able to play until I return in January. So basically if I don’t play sometime in the next two-three weeks I won’t play for over a month.

Otherwise, I made a “cold section” with the gray seals, king penguins, and polar bears! I made all the terrain modifications, set down the paths, even set up the basic habitats, buildings, and some rock work. Then…. I just stared at the screen for awhile. I haven’t played in a week since. I don’t know what happened, I was on a roll and then I just seemed to have lost interest. Maybe it’s because I have to make a building or two? I don’t know.

I do want to play again, but I have to wake up for classes at 8 and I’m usually studying to 9-10. I do try to give myself breaks too, but like I said with finals I have just been super busy.

The ideas shared here are finally starting to get some shape! The central plaza starts to come to and end (shape only, inside still a lot of work to do at all sections!). Only the African section needs to be created (yellow box). Other colors represent the African wetlands (blue), African savanna (orange), Asian walkthrough aviary (purple) and Colombian mansion (brown). Probably the aviary will be only for peafowl.

The island will be for the Lar gibbons and Asian small-clawed otter, where both can enter the dome (the trunk is mentioning were I've created the opening for now).

Special thanks to Captain Callum for his A/C packs/solar panels!

I am currently doing a zoo I call Jun-Go Zoo, I made one awhile back that was alright but know I am trying again, and I want to keep expanding it without my game crashing, let's hope for the best.

I haven't really planned anything for my zoos, i usually just build something when i'm in the mood for it, as my franchise zoo has stable income ( expect the new one i kind of left for the moment... )

Can anybode maybe help with with tips for a good Asian water monitor exhibit? I never liked building these, same with the Komodo dragon. I'm just not good with these kind of animals...

Good in terms of you could find this at a real zoo?

According to my observation, the main reason is that most zoos display them in relatively large display boxes, which is inconsistent with the game. Although the 4x4x4 volume in the game can actually accommodate some not very large individuals, it is obvious that F did not do so. Back to the point, there is a principle in the design of all animal displays, that is, to let the animals show their natural behaviors as much as possible. For Asian water monitors, a large pool and abundant climbing objects are indispensable, and some tropical vegetation can also enrich your exhibition area. Of course, as a reptile, temperature, sunlight, and humidity are very important. Adult Komodo dragons are slightly different. They hardly climb trees. Of course, they don't need to. After all, in their native habitat, except for humans, they have no natural enemies, so their vegetation can be less and does not need to be as rich as that of Asian water monitors.
However, the exhibition area for young Komodo dragons may also be suitable for Asian water monitors. This is my previous design, I hope it can help you.

Realistic. In general I don't have much inspiration with these kind of animals.

This is the space I have available to fill.

Okay monitor keeper here.
The thing with the water monitor, and by extension all 3 of them although the komodo to a lesser extend, is that you really cant build any realistic enclosures for them in game, that are actually usable atleast.
Their traversable area is just so bad that everytime i build for them they are basicly an exhibit animal because they cant move a single step.

If you wanna build something similar to what monitor enclosures look irl there are a couple things to keep in mind.
-Some kind of pond, doesnt have to be anything super crazy but they do require some kind of water area since like swimming/hanging out in the water.
-Climbing structures, these guys are excellent climbers and irl do spend a decent amount of time in trees. Obviously they dont in game, which is a big shame, but for a realistic enclosure climbing stuff is needed
-Different basking opportunities, like all monitors they require very high basking temperatures and pretty intense lighting, including special uvb lights. My pilbara rock monitor requires a basking spot of 50-55 degrees celsius/ 120-130 fahrenheit, and its gonna be very similar for water monitors. Obviously that doesnt really matter for in game, but i think its nice to keep in mind when designing their enclosures.
Its best to give the monitor options to chose which temperatures and UVB level it needs at a time, so make sure to include multiple basking lights at various distances to the animal. Those could be achived by having a rock stack or jumble of logs under one light so the animal can regulate by climbing up or down to get the prefered distance or just multiple different spots or both.
-Something to hide, they usually retreat to shelters at night, they dig burrows irl but also use hollow logs or other hides to sleep in
-Water monitors are pretty smart and usually really docile. They can recognize different people and can become very tame and friendly towards their keeper, so they can usually enter the habitat just fine while the animal is in there. And since they are so inteligent (for reptiles anyways) it would be fun to include sort of stuff for them to do, something to keep their brains going. Ive seen dog puzzle feeders and similar ideas used for them.

Hope this helps

Again looking for some help/inspiration! I'm not sure what to do with the open space at the entrance area of the zoo. On the right there already is a shop and restaurant and in the building itself are staff facilities.

Make a backstage storage area. Like some small sheds and a fence so the staff can access some feed, vehicles, cleaning tools, etc.

Can the guests access it? If so, I recommend putting a large centerpiece in the middle and making a nice decorative plaza. Maybe a nice fountain or statue?

Thanks, that is what I'm going with!

It is only the small part (with the red circle) the large open part will be a public park, so not something the guests will most likely enter.
