What does this button do? I HAD to test the escape pods.

Last night, whilst doing some testing ready for release of the next HCS update for Odyssey (yes, we've added in the emotes). I thought I would pop over to one of the Wells Class megaships to see what all the fuss was about with the Escape Pods.

Now. I was parked in the T Tauri system about 500ly outside the bubble at that really cool asteroid base.

But, my Krait has a reasonable jump range and it was only 27 jumps away. So, half an hour or so later of jumping, I arrive at the Megaship and take a look at the interior. Very nice! Different from stations and outposts.

And lo! There is a short corridor and at the end of it, a pair of escape pods. Yes.. The kind you find lying around marked as 'occupied' and people pay you for returning.

Hover the mouse... It says 'E' to interact.

Tempting. I want to see what it does. Does it take me to the nearest station? Or recover me to here as this is where my ship is?

I click it. Lights start flashing, clamps partially unlock...

A big box pops up asking I'd I want to ESCAPE

Ah, sod it...

I click it. There are noises. Hissing and whooshing. Screen goes black apart from a small white dot. There is clunking as I'm ejected.

And I wake... Back in the T Tauri system. 500ly away. Without my ship.

Oh. Bother.

'That will be 1.4 million credits to transfer your ship back here please sir. Oh, and 2 hours.'

What a muppet I am. Of course it goes back to the last place you docked.

Where's the face-palm emote?

So, (yes I know, so-so :p), docking at the megaship didn't make the megaship count as 'last place you docked'.
Bu it would've if you'd flown away with your ship and got to rebuy?

Before the update, this feature was pointed out. I was surprised D2EA was not aware, but, information overload I suppose.

heh - nice post! Reminded me I wanted to check this out - so went to the Indra m/s in HR 1185 (not quite as far :) ).

It sent me back to my ship in Donar's Oak/Delphi, which is fine apart from there is no-one at the Inter-Astra desk - no shipyard! Luckily I left my ship on the planet just below - but this does imply that if the last place you docked has no shipyard (as is the case for a lot of remote locations) then it won't be much of an escape route :)

The purpose of it is that things like megaships CAN move... and Fleet carriers when they get the system WILL be moving. It serves its twin purposes perfectly:

1. GTFO the megaship/fleet carrier* as it might have got you stranded - returning to the megaship would defeat their objective.
2. Give Mr 21 a tale to tell of his own muppetry in the bar

So

working PERFECTLY as intended.

regarding the Apex taxi - T Tauri system is a LONG way from anywhere... and as such, there are no valid destinations within range.
