What does this button do? I HAD to test the escape pods.

On a serious note - it has been well implemented. The location of the pods, the visuals with the clamps and the lights. The "flow" of the gameplay around them and most of all the sound.

Sound team have once again excelled themselves here - when you finally click the "ok, go on then, let's see what this does" button - the sound sequence that starts as you're thrown out into the void is cool.

Yes, it's a fade to black and then a reawakening at your destination, but.... It's fast enough that it isn't a pain if you have to use it and I was able to get back on with playing the game nice and fast without too much faff.

I HEARTILY recommend that everyone give it a go just for giggles.
There are (I THINK) currently SEVEN Wells Class ships with escape pods fitted? Five of them listed here... can't remember the other two.

Dove EnigmaColoniaA 3
Still Krisi's EclipseKpelidoogA 1
The IndraHR 11854 A
The MidasZeus1
Tiliala's LamentAkandinigua5

That's quite an escape pod then, moves faster than anything else in the game.
And quite correctly, too! I mean imagine if I had to watch it eject, then float for a few hundred years at relativistic speeds until some commander rescued it and took me back somewhere. That would be a TERRIBLE escape pod.

I prefer to think of it creating a "one hit" witch space jump to my destination and being picked up by uber-limpet in a matter of seconds.

Either that - and we reported on this on a previous Hutton Orbital News segment - it's NOT actually an escape pod. You enter it, and are recycled into component parts by laser and then your consciousness is transferred by tight beam witch-space signal to another station where you're 3d printed in a matter of seconds.

There are a lot more m/s that that - and the Wells thing is a mistake in the patch notes: Asimov class like The Gnosis also have innards and escape pods. Pretty sure the Colonia Bridge ones do as well. Not sure if the prison ones do, probably not.

Edit: The Gnosis is a good example as it does move, so you might actually want to escape :)

So near instantaneous free (or no additional cost ) unlimited travel is available in the galaxy, yet people are still going to use ships. Yeah, I know, it's a game thing :)

you mean...

you mean...

I didn't have to go all that way....

I could have. Just. Picked a near one?

<cries into my glass of Centuari Mega Gin>

Good show on picking up the challenge-gauntlet!

Escape pods, however, do not let anyone escape from financial responsibilities.

1.4m to transfer my ship behind me isn't free - it's REALLY EXPENSIVE. My bank manager is NOT IMPRESSED.

And you're sounding rather salty there. This thread is a salt free zone and only allowed to contain giggles.

I thought this thread was about escape pods, so I think I've stayed on topic. Quite a lot more so than most of my posts.

As a matter of interest, can crew members disembark at a megaship and make use of an 'escape pod'?

Saw the pods in the Pride of Bitterwood last night, was momentarily tempted:

Ah but I couldn't hear the giggles from here ;-) Alpha C is a LONG WAY from anywhere

And yes. I believe they can. I will, of course undertake this test! Someone come pick me up at T Tauri and we can give it a go....

We need a division of the Fuel Rats to go pick up stranded Commanders :p
I want to hitch a lift with someone out to Beagle Point .... and get left there ... on purpose .... to see what happens .... for science!
(Thinking about it .... I might talk to Malic_VR)

To be fair:

a. I travelled 500ly then tested the escape pod, so the distance is my own silly fault
b. Ship transfer times and fees are acceptable
a. I did not comment on the distance. I expect megaships to be even farther from civilized space.
b. Did they added a pool in the station interior?
