What EVE is and what ED could one day be ( community-wise )

"Solidarity, tenacity, sheer stubborness"; got that already...

Not so much the latter , see the post above yours for the logic used to bash and abuse others with a different mentality even when FD does not have an agenda, it has a goal which was outlined but not detailed conclusively or definitely ergo the excuse is flimsy at best.

Also see the attempt to call this an EVE thread when really it is about this community not either game but using EVE's community as a a tool for comparison.

My hunch is both the old guard and new , like me, are gonna be in for a interesting ride in the first year of launch both in terms of community and game.

I may go back someday to visit because of the whole extragalactic thing hinted at this fan fest and the score or so of friends I made during the years.

Really do hope things pan out well for the community here as I would hate to see it fracture with distrust and self-interest.

Quite frankly yes because even as you attempt to troll again, and fail quite badly at it again, you point out something: People will do bad things in this game even if they are good people in real life, question is will they stand together if ever push comes to shove as the EVE one does?

Well, "when push comes to shove"; FD's game will not be Eve...

Not trolling, like many of us, PacalB is a long-time EVE player and a lot of the bad things that happened there, particularly abuse of the metagaming and basic hijacking of the game development by some of the larger factions, we don't want to happen here. PacalB is particulary in the forefront of NOT wanting a lot of what happened in EVE, particulary the player narrative of the larger corporations and alliances dominating the game.

And I support him in this.

And I also!!

Lastly, this forum has rules that we "all" have to follow, when you registered here;

You agree to not:

So how about you cut out constantly doing that in your post replies to us all please.

Just a little offtopic, but rule means you can't mask words, however if they are getting filtered out with asterisks, then it's ok - you just can't work around them.

So let's use naive example:
s.k.y.c.r.a.n.e. - if skycrane is forbidden word, this could get me banned.
******** - if skycrane is forbidden word, this is actually ok.

Sure, mob rule! That's the way to go! I love our various disagreements and healthy discussions. For the record we have already stood together on a few occasions, the DDF's most famous example having the game majorly changed from 'jump to point' to supercruise.

In the meantime, let's discuss 3rd person external views and the definition of griefing.

In our arguments, there is the healthy heartbeat of a vibrant community. We have nothing to learn from the EVE Community. Other than what to avoid.

He's using every trick in the book to illicit a response, best ignore him as he likely also forgot that RPG does not also equate to "story spoon fed to you by the Dev/DM" but bless his heart he tries. RPGs can be linear, WoW, or emergent like EVE so EVE is an MMORPG just not one he likes.

Part of the point of the thread as well, yes.

What I want from Elite is a game where I can talk to friends, or not. Where I can go anywhere I want. Pick a star and go there, and even if I never reach it I can try.

It is freedom to do what I want, when I want. To be anything in game, from a bounty hunter, miner, trader, pirate, or just explorer or anything else you can think of. No one to tell me yes or no. No one to say hey you have to be here at a certain time. No I have the freedom to do anything I want, and know that there is nothing in game that a group can do I can't do solo. The great expedition may be the one thing to reach out as far as they plan, I may not accomplish solo, but nothing says I can't try, or trade with them on the way to go out as far as I want, or go in a different direction totally, and be the first person ever to see to see some of the sights I will see.

I don't think anyone in EvE can say that after so many years, but in Elite after even 10 years or 20 there will still be places no one has ever seen. That is what makes it so unique. No one can say they did and saw it all.

God what a great post! +1

Well, to be fair, he points out correctly that player orgs with too much influence on the game can ruin experience for anyone else, however, I see it more like devs fault, because they should work with this and keep balances in check. So regarding EVE if it was an issue, then CCP clearly failed to deliver.

THIS!

Also, why do we have to be the Eve community or learn from them? ED is its own game, many of us have not even played Eve and how no desire to become Eve 2.0. I want the ED community to develop its own personality, I want Elite Dangerous to be the game I played back in 1984 with knobs on, i.e. the space trading, pirating, pew pew if I wish, with an open universe where the number of rules and laws are limited to the faction systems.

If you want Eve and the Eve community go there, change it. Let ED develop on its own.

Have to say I, even though not a fan of the actual gameplay of EvE, the level of hostility towards that game on these forums is embarrassing.

Please don't presume to tell me who I should ignore. I'm perfectly capable of making up my own mind.

It's also more constructive to play the ball, not the man.

Not really. I think if you compare the graphs above you'll see that whilst subs have 'gone up' the number of players online at any onetime is constantish, between 25 and 35 thousand. That's a lot of turnover. And the reason for that turnover is the sheer nastiness of the metagame and the helplessness almost of the lone pilot against suicide ganks, scammers, war decs, harassment, newbie killers (I made a career for a while going after newbie killers), etc etc

There's a lot to hate about that community in terms of 'Anything goes, particularly nastiness is encouraged' that brings out the worst in people. And people like me who fought it and lost are very much in the minority. I basically had people cry on my shoulder when they found my corp.

Turn over is due to lack of space, yes nastiness can be a factor but when you get 30k people crammed into 6k solar systems it gets noisy.

Also CVA maintains NRDS in a 0.0 region...and they are RPers. Nasty the game may be but only if you dive in unprepared does it actually sting.

Not really detecting hostility toward EVE, but there's certainly a majority who don't want to have it influence E: D in any way.

A lack of enthusiasm for something is *not* the same as overt hostility toward that something.

Re-reading this thread, the more aggressive posts tend to be the pro-EVE ones.

But of course, this thread isn't about EVE, apparently...

Lack of space could presumably have been corrected by CCP - if they had the will to do so. As they have not, they are complicit in the "kettling" of players and the resultant gameplay. I don't think that Frontier want to do this with the game and have only allowed it to happen in Alpha and Beta for testing purposes.

Thankfully we will have over 100,000 inhabited systems initially and access (ultimately) to 400,000,000,000 - that should be enough to stop the unpleasant effects of over-crowding.

I intend to play this game along with friends. I like the potential and dynamics of having escorts or being an escort. I don't want to become the king of the Universe, but I hope that some coop gameplay will be do able in game.

I'd also love to dock my fighter inside my friend's bigger ship. lol ok that actually sound funny. :D

EVE is also expanding its map soonish as well so after it will be interesting to note if sub's growth spikes.

Also keep in mind the EVE server is so titanic in scale private servers are impossible due to the material costs required to emulate in hardware and power.

Pilot 1: Momma bear this is Papa bear readying to dock for sweet honey.
Pilot 2: Dude stop calling me that and my fuel honey!

<Freud>Ach ya, so tell me just how long you've been having these dreams... </Freud>

<Agony Aunt>I really think you should tell your 'friend' about how you feel...</Agony Aunt>

LOL.

Eve runs on a fairly hefty cluster, I'll grant you that. However, the machines I play with at work put it to shame. Even our x86 server (not workstation) count is around the 56,000 mark.

Obviously I can't be more specific and keep my job.

So you either work for a government or a central astronomy and astrophysics research lab.
Only thing I know better than EVE's is

Or the one in use at NASA ( commercial usage, somewhat ).
