What, exactly, ARE the core systems?

I've heard a bunch of players talking about "The core systems" and the devs mentioning "core systems" in a few FAQ and other posts, and from what i've read I gather they're systems that have high player traffic and unique or special stations with more ships?? And they have capital ships flying around or some such things??

I understand that it makes sense for Sol and whatever the Empire's capital is to be a "core system", but i've seen no concrete statements about what exactly it... is???

Where do I go to find high player traffic or npc traffic? Where is a system that seems "Full"

I'm not sure you'd call the core system strictly, but I have been using the galaxy map to find the largest systems (and in theory most bustling in terms of services, etc). One on of the tabs you can show systems by population size. Move the slider almost all the way to the right. Maybe a couple of notches down from the max. I have found these systems to be useful hubs for missions etc.

In the original game it was Lave,Leesti and surrounding systems

though since playing from beta, Aulin,Eranin and surrounding systems could equally be called core

This term has gotten thrown around with different meanings.

Many players refer to the systems which comprised the starting area in Beta (around Eranin) as the " core systems". They are not in fact the core of anything now that the Beta bubble has burst, or even special in any way other than nostalgia.

There is also a "Core Sys Sector" on the galaxy map, but that is not the same thing.

Without context, I don't know what the developer posts you're referencing were referring to.

I've always assumed that the "core" systems are where the capital systems are for all the different empires...

Sol for federation, Lave for alliance and Achenar for the Empire.

I could be completely wrong though, so don't quote me.

The "Core Systems" in Frontier Elite 2 and FFE were the systems around Sol. I think there was a label on galaxy map in ED to that effect too. So if the devs say "core systems" that's what I'd assume they meant.

Alpha/beta players often mean the systems around Eranin as those were the first accessible systems.

I'd expect citizens in the game to be referring to the central systems of their major faction: Sol for Federation, Achenar for Empire, and Alioth for the Alliance. Don't think I've seen that usage in the game yet though.

Core systems, afaik, refer to the core systems of each faction. Core systems are systems that have extremely high populations and worth to their respective factions. Achenar, Facece and Cemiess are, for example, core systems of the Empire (there are more).

has anyone managed to get Permits for systems like Achenar in the Empire ? or good old Facece ?

I am currently Friendly with the Empire and many Allied and Friendly Empire Factions
