What feature are you most hoping for in 2.4......and why?

New materials to scavenger from lava planets with new fancy scanner that shows where the material locations are.

I was flying around in a planet just searching for things (minor settlements and other kind of POI's) at a very low altitude and it is quite cool to find things by your own. But I would love to see another scanner quite similar to the one found in the SRV, but for POI's only (settlements, silos, etc). Materials should stay a thing for the SRV in my opinion so it will keep its function...for me it is also quite entertaining to drive around with it.

But for 2.4 I would love to see a couple more ships, more varied types of SRV's. One SRV for mining with a mechanical drill instead of lasers, a big one for cargo (imagine big ships carrying it like T9, Anaconda, Cutter and Panther Clipper...oh and Python which has a big door at the back of the ship...wonder if that one could be opened in the future :p), and one for racing (small, fast, agile, and cool looking of course). Of course with all these SRV's they may add places where you can mine (like "Res Sites" but in planets), and then settlements with proper racing circuits (they just need to add some checkpoints to mark the path and done, nothing fancy needed).

Atmospheric landings is something that I really want to see at this point, no need of those with life or big cities (that probably never will make it into the game, it is impossible to make something as massive and complex like that in all populated planets), those planets with different type of atmospheres should do (all those "without life"...or at least known life tho).

This is what I want to see...

Imagine being in Venus (actual picture from a russian probe)...and places similar with the colour changes, foggy/dusty ambience and the sound of the wind there...just that.

If Mars wasn't populated...(actual picture)...but other planets alike can be done, right?

I want an alien war where we can either join the aliens or humans. If we can't join the aliens hopefully at least we can get special alien materials to use to make human alien hybrid modules

The ability to share missions so wings (or multicrew) have a purpose besides staying in once place and going "pew-pew." Give a group a reason to travel together: the ability to make money and earn rep from teaming up on a mission(s). Team missions on planetary installations would be particularly neat.

Yeah but thats suppose to be the next dlc :/

More SRV types

Imagine having a huge truck that only fits in a class 8 cargo hold and is used to position those mining machines we sometimes find on worlds

Now that could be fun, especially when you find someone elses and 'borrow' them [money]

"Also used to get the euro-truck simulator crowd on board ED" :D

NPC crew, or NPC Wings Or better yet, Escort missions.

All of the above would be high up on my list, and features thats are not just oriented towards pew pew. Something that can used across all game modes (Solo/Groups & Open) better to implement features that benefits the largest percentage of the players.

The feature I'm most excited about would be the people claiming that they are done with the game actually doing that, and take their whines with them.

One thing that Frontier needs to do is to facilitate players seeing each other. In that light, I'm going to just bullet-point one way to do that, and this is something I would like to see happen.

-Change Open by choosing a sphere of influence that is somewhat centrally located, and making this area PvP, leaving the rest of the galaxy PvE. Once this is stable, remove Solo and Private Group.
-This area requires a permit to access, which is easy to get, but requires a very deliberate set of steps that clearly indicate that this area is PvP-enabled.
-Jumping into this area would show this information, along with the star type, status, etc. This area would not be sequestered by anything other than the permit.
-As this area is likely more dangerous, the rewards would be commensurately higher (which they currently are not). If Open already has higher payouts, someone please correct me.
-Missions can come into this area from outside, but all missions that originate inside are completed inside, and pay significantly more both in credits, and in Reputation.
-CG's can run, and the payouts are significantly higher.
-Significantly more materials can be mined/gathered from each node.

I can add more, but I think you get the picture. One instance of the game, and those who want to keep to themselves have 90% of the bubble, and 99.X% of the galaxy in which to do that, and the game would be little different than it currently is. Most of the game space would be safe from player griefing, but in this one area, anything goes, and you would have the possibility of seeing other players more frequently.

One of the problems with the current live game is that the rewards do not scale with the (sometimes) hugely increased risk of playing in Open. If this was addressed, more people might play in Open, which is something this game does need for long-term success. The (massively) increased rewards also address the issue of rebuys vs. income when playing in Open in busy areas, or even just in general.

This is a bit gamey, certainly, but something needs to be done to facilitate people seeing other real players during a normal span of game time. True, you could go weeks in the bubble without ever seeing anyone else, but once everyone is playing together, I think some natural convergence will happen. Like in other MMO's, just seeing the other players running around makes the game feel more alive, and that is something that this game is missing out on.

This would also encourage people grouping up and/or travelling in numbers in the PvP zone. Armed escorts might actually become a thing, or even dare I say a player-made profession in the game on a daily basis, instead of just during events. Bounty hunting and piracy could also grow organically with something like this in place.

Just something to think about - it isn't perfect, and would take some work, but it would be my most anticipated feature for 2.4 on top of whatever is already in the pipe.

Just a bit of idle speculation & wish expression. What feature do you most hope for in 2.4....and why?

For me, there were several that were all close contenders. In the end, though, what I want is a fully fledged Favour System.

First up because it is yet another form of Currency-one which can theoretically buy what credits can't-like the ability to haggle over mission parameters (payment, completion times etc) or tip offs relating to upcoming System States or even CG's, as examples.

Secondly, though, I believe favours could work to help bind together various elements of the game-like using your Federal Rank to earn more rapid access to an engineer affiliated to the Federation, or sacrificing your rep with a faction in return for a promotion within the military of the Super Power that Faction is affiliated with.

Offline mode - well you did ask!

Why? people, other damn people! ;)

Other than pie in the sky stuff like atmospheric landings, which we pretty much know aren't coming in 2.4, I'd have to say a more complex set of things to do while exploring. FD has been good lately about putting a few things out in the black, eg Colonia, dynasty expedition, asteroid bases, but I'd still like to see a more advanced exploration mechanic.

Eg more granular and possibly high value type of scientific scan data that can found using a reasoned and targeted approach, ie related to stellar forge and Astronomy features, and perhaps involves some new scanning equipment or mods. Heck even mass effect 2 had a somewhat cool mechanic mini game thingy for five different PO is and resources. Not saying it should be the same but you get the idea.

On a related note, if they could figure out how to make caves that had interesting or useful stuff in them, maybe involving some of the suggested advanced exploration mechanics above, that would be awesome!

OK I'm getting myself upset now, Iove FD and Elite but I know anything like all this is probably not coming any time soon if ever. I get the impression the exploration mechanics are considered finished unfortunately.

Edit - forgot to say why. Because exploration is too darn repetitive!

Yeah, trying to avoid the obviously "Pie in the sky" stuff.....or other stuff would be much higher up my list ;). However, the ability to land on planets with thin (0.2 or less) atmospheres, Calling in Favours, overhauls of Exploration, Crime & Punishment, and Military Careers-& possibly even NPC Crew & Wings-are certainly things I believe are *possible* for 2.4, even if some are less likely than others!

If we don't get a NPC navigator in 2.4 I will start to use the 3rd party navigator if it's still available, I would even pay for it as I find the press (J) to jump incredible annoying for long distances.

It was in the DDF but we know that the DDF was a lie and just a commercial mirage.

Wow! There are a lot of good ideas here.

I'd like to see exploration and trading related improvements. (There's enough pew-pew enhancements already.)

Planetary markers, entered via coordinates, would be high on my list. They should be sharable outside of ED via a text cookie, to make expedition meet ups simpler.

More ships would be welcome, as would more station variations, like outposts with large landing pads or only small pads.

Huge ships which act as ferries to distant places, like Colonia. Perhaps they make the trip once a week. Dock and buy a ticket; log out and log in tomorrow and you're at the destination. The fare should be cheaper than current ship transport and you should be able use these huge ships to transfer your ships to Colonia at a reduced rate.

I'd really like a proper crime and punishment system, which harshly deals with players who kill non-wanted commanders, to basically restrict them to anarchy systems and combat areas. That's what it would take for me to return to Open.

Greater regional variation and greater variation in risk, reward, challenge, and opportunity with respect to location, reputation, government type, security level, faction, power, superpower, etc. Right now it doesn't matter that much where you go or what's going on when you get there. You can do just about everything everywhere with the same risks and same results. What variation currently exists, is minor and mostly irrelevant. I want there to be places where I feel completely safe, and other places I'm afraid to go. Etc etc you get the idea. This is top of the list for me. RNG/procedural gen is fine but I want the RNG to be "chunky" not "smooth". The galaxy lacks texture.
