Underclock it? I overclocked mine (MSI GTX970) to be able to get some more out of Reshade. Never crashes on me.
Seems to me you might have some driver issues. (Or its OS related, I still run on Windows7, and I hear some stories abouw Windows 10 and Elite not quite getting along all the time)

MSI GTX 980 TI Seahawk has a built in water cooler. Best thing I ever bought. Along with my g-synch 140mhz monitor. Elite looks amazing with these 2.

Just bought a GTX 980ti after I found horizons wouldn't run on my old hunk of junk. The game now runs beautifully and fingers crossed its specced for VR later in the year.
