what happened at this outpost what did i do wrong?!

im in utter shock and anger right now. i just lost around 150 mill in mined resources because of something im absolutely baffled by!? i was going to a station, HIP 80242, shen boarding site, to sell a load of grandidierite. i came in atmo. i requested landing. was granted access and landed. everything was A-OK. then as im trying to get to the commodity market so i can make my sale the station starts firing on me. and blew my ship up. i have no bounties on me. nothing stolen. im just a lowly miner. and the station fired upon me and killed me and wasted around 150 million in cargo i was carrying.

What is going on. why did the station just nuke me for trying to sell them mined resources?! no warning no nothing. do these stations just hate miners now? or was it so offensive im using a cutter to mine that they just had to nuke me and waste WEEKS worth of mining to fill my cargo hold!?

Ah your typo was confusing. Pirate attack, could be offline. Top tip - if you see people running towards your ship shooting at it this may mean you are under attack. Looking at the screen will also tell you about this as you will see the shield going down, swiftly followed by the hull...
oh sorry about that. im still a bit in shock and typing a bit too fast. and i mean there was no one running towards my ship? not that i seen atleast. i requested to land. got approved and welcomed and gave a landing spot. and when i was there i was able to get into commodity market and was trying to sell my goods when i noticed the tell tale signs of being shot at finally in the corner of my screen. by then it was full blown panic to try and take off. even though by the time i noticed. i had like 24% hull left. and that was gone in a split second.

"The Player Journal logs (sometimes called Captain's Log) contain useful log lines that record certain actions while you are playing.

The usual location for this folder will be here:

C:\Users\%userprofile%\Saved Games\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous"

Look for the latest text file, and check the timestamps.

Sometimes you won't find out any meaningful information, but it might at least tell you what killed ya.

ok i found it the log. thank you either way. i never knew about this. but i took a quick peak through this and. the interaction between me and shen boarding site looks normal? before i start, to my eyes, randomly getting attacked then died. forgive me as i dont really know how to parse this out. it dont make sense to me or im just missing something.

the logs when i land at shen boarding site look like business as usual. then all of a sudden combat initiated and then im targeted then destroyed?

imma post it anyways for you to take a look at if you want and see for yourself. i mean the log seems pretty comprehensive but. i dont even know.

but im open to being made fun of if this was some big dumb on my part.

I've got a T10 that has been fired on a couple of times when legally landed on a base landing pad ...

I've a (vague) feeling there's a bug in the trespass zone sizes, and T10 / T9 are so big they clip them when on the pad?

im in an imp cutter. its not that big. (compared to T9/10s that id think) would you think the odyssey landing zones are given smaller legal landing spaces then the actual pads?

From my experience, sometimes it happens that a station bugs and suddenly turns hostile.
On one occasion I was taking off from a Coriolis Port, and as I undocked the station suddenly turned hostile and destroyed me.
Another time, my own fleet carrier suddenly decided to shoot me down while I was approaching it.
In both cases I had done nothing wrong (no weapons, no bounties, no loitering, etc ).
I looked at the logs in both cases, and there was nothing suggesting what was wrong, so it had to be a bug.

Definitely a bug, you had already docked and got killed by a base turret in an outpost that gave you permission to land, so there's no way they were hostile.

As Morbad says, contact support but you can also - if you like - put stuff like this down as "stuff happens," in space.

Maybe you didn't have a bounty but maybe someone recognised you, as the guy who killed their brother, years ago but never forgotten .. maybe just a gun malfunction.

The biggest takeaway though is probably not to stay in station services when your ship is taking fire .. but get the flip out of there instead. Reasons are not always as important as shield hits, your cargo and your rebuy.

Why are they shooting me? Dunno. They just are. Run.

I would say the same, a bug or a player, however you said it was the settlement firing at you? my advice call CS they are nice and if they find anything weird you will get your stuff back.

Does look like a bug in the log. Contact support, they'll restore your CMDR's assets.

Docked vessels are supposed to be immune to attack/damage, above ground or under.

thanks for the suggestion. i didnt know FDEV actually would help out with lost resources from bugs. ive learned alot more about the game and its workings last few days then i have over the years of playing and trying to learn about the smaller systems. or rather more important things ive been learning about recently.

yeah you are right. i completely agree with you. if i had lost my ship and resources due to just me being bad at the game. as i have before. i would not have even made this post. i just would have done exactly as you had described and just rebuilt and learned from my mistake. ive had plenty of times where ive picked bad battles or just was not paying attention or what have you. and ive taken those in stride. but this was more of a shock and, in my eyes deserving of a post asking "what?!" because it was just so out of character for the game and absolutely random. and yeah. if i had noticed sooner i would have just launched and left the station when i started taking fire. but im running a mining imp cutter and i only have a small shield on to give me some bumpers for accidents in the asteroid fields. and by the time i even noticed i was being fired upon my shields were down and most of my hull was gone. i had litterally half a second to react to it. before i was destroyed. along with having no warning no nothing to tell me i was being attacked untill i saw the sparks and smoke in the corner of my eye.

and to those saying it could have been a player or what not. im one of those lame people who plays in solo. i know lame. lawls. ill freely admit that.

Yeah, I've 100% had this happen to me in a cutter at a planetary settlement. I was able to get away in that instance, but it was definitely a trespass zone issue.

Contact CS, explain what you did and what you lost, give them as much info as you can, i once lost my anaconda due to the auto docking was ramming my ship into the station just as i passed the toaster, it was a bug and I got it back, so they do care.
