What happened to happy space trucking?

I think it's fairly safe to say that a game - or a part of one - that's almost zen like needs some prompt fixing. Not sure if just raising the annoyance factor to prevent someone from falling asleep is a good one.

I think FD making small ships almost always pull a larger ship out is bonkers.A large ship has a higher powered FSD the interdiction device would need a lot of power to disrupt the stability of a high powered FSD. further more what does a small ship think they will accomplish if they 1 succeed to pull a large ship out or large ship submits. Maybe NPC have a death wish, they are say the most stupid things like I want your cargo when your carrying none and not have any active missions.

I also enjoy the Euro trucker (space trucker) hauling from A to B without interruption.

Getting interdicted by eagles and sidewinders with pulse lasers in my anaconda 5 times in row per flight is someway boring so i pretty much gave up on playing for now until they make interdictions again somethign that happens about once every 2 or 3 hours.

Hello OP. I feel you. I recently had to give up trucking in my T9 because being interdicted by a wing of 1 python and 2 vipers 3 times in a row will mean you have no chance. I was mass locked and insta popped before I could bail out in high wake. 8 mil insurance plus 6 mil of cargo... OUCH!

Now I fly in a trading-combat Anaconda and when I get interdicted I can shout BRING IT ON! to the opponents :D

lol, I would be interested in learning your definition of 'zen'

As a Trader I don't mind the idea of being interdicted by naughty boys.

What I do not like is that the entire system is lopsided; as in, from the Trader's point of view, it's the interdictor that has power over all of the choices involved. Short of not flying a large ship the Trader has nothing at his/her disposal to mitigate interdiction.

...and then the game rolls the dice and if the rseult comes up snake-eyes the Trader gets wiped out in 12 seconds by a Railgun Python. Because apparently 'you die now' dice rolls are fun now.

The Interdiction system could have been an interesting match-up of so many factors, including skill, technology and location, that both parties had control over but instead ED ended up with perhaps the most wonky of all mini-games. Another ball dropped, alas.

I put down ED a while back to play the horde of other awesome games that came out in 2015, but I decided to pick it up recently after the holiday break.

Now I've never been big on combat or exploration, but I always found space trucking around in my T7 a relaxing, almost zen experience.

Much to my dismay, after several hours of play, I found that relaxing experience to be almost completely disrupted by NPC interdictions. It used to be that every once in a while an NPC would try to track you down, but the mini game of avoidance was always - with some effort - accomplishable. You could also fall victims to CMDR pirates, but it was easy enough to avoid those systems if you chose to.

Now it seems like every 5th or 6th jump, I'm accosted by an NPC, and every 3rd one is nearly impossible to escape, and every 3rd one of those ends up insta-killing me and my cargo included. That can sometimes mean a loss of 2-3M credits + insurance, which when that's about as peak as I ever earned an hour, basically nullifies your entire effort, and at worst sets you back even further than when you started.

I can appreciate wanting to make the game have higher stakes or whatever, and maybe this is just no longer a safe game to relax and space truck in, but I don't remember ever having this problem before.

Am I the only one experiencing this nasty shock? Is it time to permanently hang up my space trucker hat?

As I prefer to trade in a ship that has teeth (Python atm, though Clipper, 'Conda and Cutter would also be my traders of choice) I usually see NPC interdictions as a nice bonus. Submit, turn round and initiate laser diplomacy and a KWS.

I'm afraid you're right. The interdictions won't stop anytime soon. They were increased in 1.4 and became ridiculous in 1.5/2.0. FD seem to think this is fun. I'm not sure where their collective heads are.

I'm a combat pilot and I hate it too. NPC interdictions waste my time.

The game is still worth playing for me, but much of the fun has been sucked out of it. I'm actively looking for a replacement to ED.

This sums up my thoughts as well. As a combat pilot I dont mind interdictions as much as I did when trading/exploring - I actually quit trading entirely because of Interdiction frequency and psychic police - but I still think they are far too numerous.

I will keep playing Elite for now, but I hope someone realizes there exists a huge market for an offline, single player game like this. I will jump on it the day we get a good one.

Right on brother, MP isn't always the answer.

I wonder if these interdictions are something to do with faction enemies, missions, or powerplay.

I grind trade for hours and see the odd eagle or dbs once in a blue moon. They have the courtesy to announce themselves in SC so I can drop down myself, deploy hardpoints and be at blue speed when they pop by. Even running class 6 shields on my cutter (rather than 8) these encounters don't even dent a ring. Sometimes the target conveniently dangles in front of your nose in case you left your turrets at home.

I never smuggle for roleplay reasons - I would only do it if I wanted to undermine a faction, but at the moment the factions are not fleshed out enough to 'disagree' with them and player actions don't appear to be reflected in the BGS. Maybe another reason I don't get aggressive interdiction (not that I wouldn't welcome them).

The interdictions are indeed annoying. I have a T7, but honestly given that it uses a large pad and cannot defend itself, I'm storing it and grinding Empire rep to get a Clipper. For 5 million base cost more, you have a ship that has more cargo space, MUCH more speed, and can defend itself well.

The Python, much later on, would have to be the optimal trading ship. It doesn't have the T9 capacity, but it can land at any outpost and has the weaponry to defend itself, all of which is golden.

Go for a Python next... I was in a T7 a day ago... the Python... OMG! What an upgrade! Be prepared though... in order to get the Python good for trading, you will have to spend some cash. Make sure you spend your first money on a proper/best FSD in order to get your jumprange into something manageable.

The best Power plant for it is about 51mil btw... But... if you upgrade the FSD and, gradualy, upgrade the rest of the modules in steps, you will have a fun time in the Python. It has the same maneuverbility as a Cobra!!!!!!!!!!!! and, again, if you want to sacrifice some jumprange, you can fit some evil weapons in it.

It is, by far, my fav ship for trading now... 280t is what I haul, and that is with pretty good shields, unles someone decied to spawn OP NPCs that takes me out in less than 10s in SOLO Play... ;)
