What happened to the Type 8?

As the title puts it, where's the Type 8? It would be nice to have a dedicated hauler between the price tag of 17 million (T7) and the huge jump all the way to 74 million (T9). Not only that but just the numerical inconsistency is driving me bonkers. Is there some bit of lore or something that explains why there is no type 8?

I'd like to see some really slow and weak, but HUGE transport ships. Maybe with hardcoded cargo baus. Big profits but very much require escort wings.

Something : "We did not have time to finish the T8 assets on release. Our bad."
Lore : "Still no signs of Lakon Type 8 at Lakon I/O, reports say it could be linked to 8 being an unlucky number in Imperial space."

I have no idea, it would be nice to see some corporate home bases in game with manufacturing stations showing off some part of ship building and information relating to the corporation and their ships. Information like this is fleeting in the game which is a real shame as it would be really fun to read.

Am pretty sure this stuff is in game (minus the shipyards). I found a system that was described as the main site for building stations.

Lack of cargo ships? We have the Hauler and the three Lakons. That's 4 cargo ships.

How many dedicated fighters do we have?
Eagle, Viper (both of which are obsolete now), Vulture and FdL. Also 4.
dedicated explorers, as if there really is such a thing, we just have 2

Where would you place the type 8? Where the Python is? That would make it really hard to compete.
Or closer to the Type 7? That would basically render the Type 7 obsolete, which already has a really rough time holding up against the Clipper.

Here's one thing to keep in mind about cargo ships. Bigger is strictly better. That means once you have the bigger one, all before it are useless to you. You may find yourself downgrading for exploration, combat or mission running. But you'd never downgrade to a Type 7 for trading when you have an Anaconda.

It's a valid question.

Python jump range isn't that great with a full load of cargo. A T8 with similar cargo capacity, much weaker shields and better jump range for 35m or so would be attractive. Or maybe 375T capacity for 45m.

I remember T7 to Python being the slowest and most depressing part of the trade grind. A T8 that's cheaper than a Python would be very nice for pure trade without diminishing demand among the playerbase for the Python which has other applications.

Why no windows 9?

Best Answer I read on this forum ----- They had a German guy as head of the ship design team, when asked if they should start work on the type 8 he said 'nein' so they did that one instead

WHHHHMUUUUHAHAHAAHAH that was a good one! :D

Why is there no F-17 fighter in real life? Why is there no Mazda 4 when you have a Mazda 3 and 5? Why was there never a Cobra MKII?

Certain ideas get dropped during the prototype stage (such as the YF-17 which never made production eventually became the F-18, IIRC)

It just adds that touch of verisimilitude to the universe if you have things like that occur in game ;)

The type 8 contained a prototype FSD configuration that was found to inadvertently invoke the blind god at the heart of the universe when spooling.

It was discontinued due to intermittent reality failure.

I think I found the prototype design...

No Windows 9 has a very logical reason. In the days of Windows 95 and 98, drivers for hardware were often coded with 9x or 9* to cover all varieties of 95/98/98SE to save re-releasing drivers for new flavours. By skipping to Windows 10, you avoid potentially accepting these drivers into a system not designed for them.

Ah, a rational explanation. Thank you.
