What happens if you abandon your claim after completing the first starport and it is reclaimed from another system?

The first (and most influential) minor faction of your system comes from the place it was first claimed from. The third comes from your squadron.

I don't like my first minor faction and want to give up my claim, to reclaim from another system. Because of this and the imho far too heavy requirements for a large base, I have not started construction yet. But with the claim pause, I am getting worried I can't just reclaim.

Has anyone given up a claim and tried to reclaim from somewhere else (in the week we could colonise)?
What happens to the factions?

Hey.
Why dont you play up your faction in the old claim and take the system and star port over? BGS still applies, so no need to give it up?

I would have to play up my third and second factions and then find a way to get the faction from the system I want into my system and my current first faction out. This sounds like a lot of work!

Once the pause lifts, (when?), I think you'll need to wait out the 4 week window without doing anything for your claim to go void. This frees you up then to go claim again as you wish.

S!

I'm pretty sure I can cancel the claim from the place I got it from and reclaim again a bit later, but am not so sure if I can do this once the first starport has been built. After the starport has been built, the claim will not void.

Correct. Finishing the starport makes the claim permanent and irrevocable.

At the moment, interestingly, no - because you need to use the Colonisation Contact to cancel the claim, and they're all currently suspended.

Whether the four weeks will time out before or after Frontier is able to re-enable them is very uncertain right now.

There is a delay on reclamation in this case, but I think it's fairly short for the first time you do it - though still long enough that someone else could potentially get the system instead. If you fail/cancel the same system twice you're documented to get a longer timeout.
