What happens when hull integrity reaches 0%?

Out exploring and collided with a strong gavity planet.
Hull integrity now 12%.
So what happens when it reaches zero % ? Am I toast ?
More importantly should I keep exploring?

Hull itself means you die. Ship integrity reduces your hull by a percentage. At 0% ship integrity a 100% hull effectively works at 33%. So if you have 1000 armor, and 0% ship integrity, you know have 333 armor.

explosion-proof.jpgExplosion followed by a friendly ship coming by an picking up you in your escape pod and then delivering you to the last station you docked at.... Assuming you have insurance :)

Take that as your cue to come home and sell your data.
Be very careful on your way back. It is possible to make it back without much more damage, but avoid landing until you get back.

Some explorers have a "turn around and head back to home if damage reaches 60%" policy. It depends on how self-confident you are. One thing for sure, if you carry on, as badly damaged as you are, you won't get a lot of sympathy if you post another thread "waah! lost all my explore data!" .. On the other hand, if you go to Sag A* and back with 12% hull - deliberately - well, that's kinda frosty.

I'm sad. 5500ly into a 128'000 ly journey. Oh well, maybe next time?

Throttle zero on jump countdown. Do not AFK unless you are parked motionless somewhere very far from anything. And even then, do not AFK.

Oh, and land verrrreeee carefully. Get jammed in the mail slot with a bigger ship and you're bugsplat.

I'm not in it for the glory or data. Just the journey.
Now, I kind of like the challenge of getting to Barnard Star with 12% but the odds seem stacked against me :)

Ship integrity and hull are different things, so this:
Hull itself means you die. Ship integrity reduces your hull by a percentage. At 0% ship integrity a 100% hull effectively works at 33%. So if you have 1000 armor, and 0% ship integrity, you know have 333 armor.

Hull 0% integrity means it just falls apart. Does it mean powerplant goes boom? Don't know. I hope FD gives us more detailed damage states in this season :)

It would be fun if you could repair your hull using the rover. Maybe salvage abandoned craft for parts.
