What happens when you log out in space?

Sorry if asked multiple times already, it's hard to formulate a search query for that.

I'd like answers for both solo and online, and near stations/in deep space.

I'm interested in what happens to your ship while you are offline.
For example, if I go to open play, undock, exit the station and log out, will online players see my ship for the entire time I'm offline?

When I read the title I thought you were asking - "what happens if astronauts die in space?" :)

In beta when we log out in space and then log back in, we are roughly in the same part of space but am not sure if they will implement the same strategy in the full release - I thought that the DDF said that the last saved location would be used and for known systems, that would be at stations while if you were in unexplored space then it would be somewhere near the jump in point (i.e near the star). In other words read the DDF or wait for it to happen next month when the game is released.

No-one will see your ship as they will be in a different instance to you - i.e you wont be in an instance while the players will be.

No. Currently you'll just disappear.

Eventually it might look like you jumped away for the other players.

Then, will NPCs be able to interact with the ship?

No NPCs wont interact with it as they know that you have left your ship to go for a spacewalk into a different dimension. ;)
I put you wont be in an instance meaning that as Tinman more helpfully put "you just disappear" but I didn't want to break the immersion for anyone :)

My question boils down to: is it safe to log out in in open space to continue where you left off next time you log in, or should you always dock before logging out?

As far as I understand, currently it is. How much time passes between logging out and "disappearance"?

Yes, it is safe to log out wherever you are but it is nice to log in and see that you are in a station as I have logged out while travelling somewhere and when I logged back in I forgot where I was going and tried to sell my goods at the station I was outside of where I bought them at the previous day !

Some of us players use to do this to get passed the 'spawn inside station walls' that use to happen
You just show up where you logged out.

so what's to stop people logging out in open play to avoid/escape from combat if they look like losing their ship.

That's the million dollar question and how that is handled in the final game. I'm sure the ddf lot have been debating though.

Hi Guys,

I have an issue right now where I was like 1.5 milliionLy away from anyone and when I logged back in to Open Play, I found my ship was completely under attack even though I had logged completely out the game!! Can some please explain this to me, as I was definitely logged out yet I still got attacked died!! When I logged back in to continue my game!!

Raise a ticket with the devs if you feel you have been stitched in some way.
