What has ED forced you to do?

O man... O man where do i start

first off alpha backer was if i remember right around $295

then i received for Christmas a razor razer tartarus for $50 (open box micro center) and a saitek x52 pro $200

from there i bought a new cockpit (desk) for $200 its freaking sweet lol

After spending most my Free time life the past 6 months playing elite (thank god my wife is a big pc gamer too) and watching videos of oculus dk2 i finally bought one $380 with shipping

then OF COURSE i couldn't have under 75fps on that so a gtx 980 was in order to replace my 7970 $600 with tax

a Logitech g930 7.1 for that immersive feeling again. $102

sweet comfy gaming chair to go along with my new desk, $170

so right there $1797.........Jesus lol

anyway i sold my old desk for 200 and my old chair for 20 and old gfx for 150 so that's $370 off that so grand total of $1427 over 2 years

all to fly around in empty space totally immersed and trade virtual goods and explore a virtual world... do i regret it? nope not one bit its amazing and i have zero debt and own everything i have. good income off my business and besides this game....... lol i'm very smart with my finances. between this and star citizen I've NEVER been more excited about video games in my life... and i'm a long time gamer and simulator head. i just wish i could get the oculus to work with egosoft's x3

and I'm seriously considering a buttkicker gamer 2 or subpac for engine vibrations while in the rift lol... so that would add between 100 and 300 to that here in the future... jeez i ALMOST feel guilty :D

E: D forced me to buy an X55 Rhino HOTAS System, i bought some parts to built a cockpit console and i rewired my whole entertainment system to play E: D on my 55" TV... To be true... its the first time, a game made me do such stuff. Was worth every second and cent. I love E: D.

Take a break - I'm off to play my Steam backlog, and re-install Eve - maybe I'll take up some other hobbies.

Anything to break the monotony and grind.

I wasn't forced into anything, but as a direct result of playing Elite Dangerous I have bought an extra 8 gb of corsair vengence ram, upgraded my gfx card to a Gigabyte G1 Gaming edition GTX 9704GB, I bought a brand new 28" panel, an X52 Pro, some new hi spec headphones, I bought a pre-assembled ED tracker and finally today I just ordered a DK2 Oculus Rift. I really need to stop... I'm looking at a buttkicker now... HELP

All of this is because of ED. Love it :)

Nothing comes to mind really. Everything I've done has been my choice. I didn't need any new hardware. I did consider a joystick but after playing for an hour I realized I didn't need it. I'd like to say I've been forced to put it aside until there are more things I want to do in it, but that is really my choice. I was forced to buy it since I love space games, does that count?

You should have waited for the consumer version of the OR. Should be out within a couple months and should be better than the Dev Kit, maybe cheaper as well.

I'm pretty sure it's not going to be out in a couple of months buddy... ;)

Money's not a problem so I just wanted to get into it as soon as I could after waiting for six months trying to hold off!

I'll just sell the DK2 when CV1 comes out, I'm willing to take the hit so I can enjoy VR right now :)

I was certain I saw a tech article saying it was coming early this year. Whatever, articles and click baits yadda yadda, have fun with your rift man. I'm waiting until it's more refined before even taking that step toward ultimate immersion.

new rig, hotas, turtle beach phones 2 x £100 for beta backer (me n my bro) er...tishloads more stuff...gotta make a seat/cockpit thing... tried oculas rift....didnt like it as i kept pouring guinness down my front.

I bought new joystick MadCatz F.L.Y 5 and ProClip for my TrackIR. It also forced me to stay awake too late and not sleeping enough.

Forced to buy two sets of a bunch of things 'cos I'll be darned if I can't hunt the space lanes
just because my fiance is watching her TV stuff (sorting out an ED setup for driving a 48" Samsung,
bought a huge beanbag stiff-back seat to be closer to the screen, constructing a console/desk
with angled surfaces to have devices within suitable reach).

Bagged a bunch of used parts for decent prices off eBay to build a 3930K/4.8 + R4E setup for the
TV, bought two 980s (first time since the GTX 460 I've bought a new GPU, first time ever I bought
the top-end) so this and my original gaming PC have the best speed for ED, reorganised my office
desk to have the 24" monitor centrally positioned, built a set of small suspended shelves to hold all
the odds & sods which used to sit about the desk, replaced my existing old office chair which in no
way could be allowed to have anyone sitting on it for playing this game (levers were iffy, seat bent,
backrest wobbly; new chair better!! Woot woot!), and most of all, so I don't have to keep swapping
devices around and going crazy with cabling, bought two sets of T-16000M, CH Pro Throttle and
Logitech G13, plus another Cyborg V7 kybd and A4Tech Laser Mouse for the new build.

I drew the line at the headset-with-mic, bought just one Corsair H2100. :D Figured it's the one
item I can easily plug into either system's front-panel USB port (existing rig is a 2700K/5.0 + M4E,
Antec 300; new rig uses an Antec 302).

Also bought a 300-quid Acer 27" 2560x1440 which sits above the 24" so I can keep an eye on other
stuff without exiting the game (surprisingly decent screen btw).

Oh, kept fiance happy by giving her 50 presents for her 50th birthday which was on Valentine's day.
From the silly to the useful, cheap to not so. Mission successful, gf happy, and I have ED nirvana setup. :D

Ian.

PS. Also built custom set of shelves to hold the TV last Nov, painted entirely black, so the TV
appears suspended in the air when watching anything like ED, space documentary/movie, etc.
Many days of effort, but well worth it.

A new joystick , A new keyboard that glows the same colour as the hud , a GTX980 , oculus rift , and I lost my social skills

I was forced to buy an Hotas and get me a Software called Voiceattac - Ending up in four days of hard work (!) to figure out the controlsettings and teach my PC to understand what im saying (Which didn't work - and the controls were resseted by some updates - arrh).
So im sitting in Front of my PC and use 5 inputdevices to control the Game. NO other game would have brought me that far - im sure...

oh - and i was absolutelly forced to get me some Skins for my Ships - i... couldn't... resist...

Just wanted to reply with a thumbs-up for your avatar, brings a smile to see a ref to Dark Star. 8)

At Uni, I got a friend to watch the film, then not long after, during a lecture, I waved a rubber chicken infront
of his face. He laughed so much... lecturer was not pleased. :}

Sorry, back on topic... er... forced me to play this night for 6 hours not stop!! Wheeee!

Ian.

It had me go back to joysticks again after 14 years of outright refusing to bother.

Even though it was just a cheap $20 USB joystick..... I may give other flight-related games another look now thanks to that.

Accept mediocrity in gaming, communities where if IQ restrictions are not in place it will be filled with pvp tryhards, and pathetic game development.

I had a pretty kick-butt gaming rig so no major upgrades for me.

Edtracker, t16000m

Already had a 4770k/7990/32 gig ram/ dual ssd/custom water cooling rig. G13 was hiding in the closet..
