what I don't want to see in future releases

I have read about future releases and there are some things I think would be a waste of time

- first of all, I have no interest in being able to walk around my ship. it is nice to see the navigation cockpit or deck, but I don't see any value in walking around, or in engaging in any combat aboard ships.

- I do like the idea of being able to meet with other players in a dock for example, but obviously it will use up landing bays, so it should only be on the large docks. someplace where players can ask questions to other players, give advice, form alliances, etc. but not with avatars (virtual people walking around). I am okay with just seeing a thumbnail of a person's face at most.

- I like the idea of people having their own small inflatable space station, as long as it servers a purpose, such as providing a place to sell commodities that have been mined by the station owner.

- I don't care to see any sort of game additions that involve people walking around interacting with each other. I want to fly my ship, trade, produce in a factory, and be able to chat, but to have an avatar really takes away form the game. I like the idea of being in my ship and don't get excited because I have an avatar walking around somewhere.

- being able to drive around the planet surfaces is not that exciting. it is a space exploration game focused on flying spaceships. once you add that type of craft, land rover for example, it is a step backwards in terms of coolness. although being able to fly over a planet to scan for minerals might be fun.

- anything that adds on to the existing game I like. getting more hands on in producing commodities, ship upgrades, flying, exploring, owning your own station, etc. anything that adds a new form of existence (virtual people walking around, land rover craft, etc) I am opposed to.

I am posting this because I think many people will agree with me, and I would prefer that developers don't waste time adding things that people might not care about.

so far in playing, lets say 24 hours or so, I may have had 1 real dogfight. I don't imagine that man-to-man combat on board a ship will happen very often.

first of all, you don't HAVE to do any of these things, you can stick to how YOU want to play.
that said though, you raise some valid points.

boarding: not necessary for small ships (eagle, sidewinder, viper etc.), even for a python or anaconda it's not truly necessary as they aren't that big. It would be awesome to have a mission to board a capital class ship and then fight your way through it.
"inflatable station": what do you mean?
I don't care to see any sort of game additions that involve people walking around interacting with each other: OTHER people do, people are begging for group functionality and guilds / clans or whatever you want to call them. they want MORE social stuff.
driving around a planet: You have a point there, but why not use your ship (if it's small enough to escape gravity again) or a shuttle? beats the land rover by a long shot.
anything that adds on to the existing game I like: all these things, including the "social avatar stuff" adds onto the existing game. part of exploring for example is landing on a planet.

I am posting this because I think many people will agree with me. Why don't you make a poll to find out? We can then discuss the priorities people would want to see certain features, but first of all you'd need to ascertain your claim that many people would NOT like to see a feature.

Personally I disagree. I'd love to engage in multicrew adventures on the same ship, being able to board other ships, fend of attackers, fight fires...

It's not so much the aspect of meeting other people, but interacting with your own ship, that entices me.

Planetary exploration I also look forward to simply because I love the freedom of just going down to that planet and seeing what's down there. Which, incidentally, the SC PU gameplay demo video left me absolutely cold because it was just a series of cutscenes connecting a few maps together. My hope is that Elite will do better.

I'd say a big part of space exploration is the planets you find in space. Maybe driving around isn't a good way to get around, but you at least should be able to fly over the surface and interact with it in some way.

And for me, the big open cockpits on the larger ships just invite you to get up and walk around, look at all the details and check out the view through the windows from different angles. Giving faces to npcs on stations rather than just doing everything though menus would be really nice and immersive too.

Its probably like an inflatable doll, but for space pilots. It can get lonely out there. Sometimes you need to request docking permission when far from human contact. :D

@OP - Regarding:

You do realize that out of the entire playbase there will be people who want all of the things you don't want, and vice versa. The devs have a bad enough time trying to figure out what people DO want, never might worrying about what they DON'T want. And half the time, when people claim they want something, they later realize they didn't actually want it. Or what they actually want, isn't actually good for the game.

As a developer, usually the best position is to listen with half an ear, but basically just go with your plans and try and make something decent.

For example, i'm hoping they do allow walking around the ship. I hope they add hireable crew that you can have limited interactions with (or at least give orders to eg: "Man the turret". I want to appreciate the beauty of my ship from the inside and out and from every angle possible. And of course, space walks. Boarding i'm not so keen on, but hey, it could be fun.

And you say you don't want the ability to drive around planets... well, sorry, i also badly want this. I want to be able to drop down to a planet, park the old ship, get out, and drive off over the terrain.... and hopefully nobody will come along in the meantime and blow up my ship.

+1, but with an added frisson: if you are driving (or walking) around on a planet then you are out of your escape capsule. If anything happens to you then dead means dead - no revival and return to your old ship - the equivalent of clear-save

<chuckles> Fine by me, but I'd wager that idea wouldn't be too popular.

If you like anything that adds on to the existing game then why are you so against planetary rovers, and walking around? Done right it would add to the currently sorely-lacking depth.

what I don't want to see in future releases

I am not interested in interaction with other players, but features like that are in, and are going to be expanded whether I need and want them or not.
I think that is perfectly fine, because I do not think FD made this game specifically for me alone (although sometimes I think they can read my mind).

Unlike you I am very much interested in walking around my ship and even more so in space walking. If done right this could be an incredible experience.
I am also excited to experience what good procedural generation might be able to create on planets. It is like magic to me and I finally want to see it in action.
