What i would like to change on Exploration and why

Seriously, I'd be happy if I could have a 2nd system view that's real-time relevant or the option to lock targets from the existing system view. Maybe even to mark bodies on the system view as interesting/ignore and have them show up in the nav list with a tick or cross next to them.

**Edit** Also if you've detail scanned a star then how about giving a visual representation of where the estimated goldylocks zone will be?

@rekal if you want nitpick it's actually 5.5s but w/e ... also intermediate scanner isn't 10k ls it's 1k ...

also crossing 10k ls takes several minutes (less than 5)

There you go exploration is not finished and the game is already released, during beta days I always wonder why

the release a game so unfinished ... maybe just to meet the promised dateline ... but whatever what done is done.

The exploration mechanics is lazy and no fun at all. One button no skill required , not well paid enough ... now all

that keeps people exploring is probably getting your cmdr's name attached to a planet ... which is lame after awhile.

Frontier please look into the exploration mechanics ... it's very lacking ... for now exploration can be sum up into a

few words ...

BUY THE BEST SCANNER, ONE BUTTON REVEAL ALL PLANETS, LOTS OF BORING SC AROUND ... SCAN SCAN SCAN ... RINSE REPEAT.

You would hate it after a 100 times of doing the same thing.

More depth or there is no fun in exploration.

Personally This is the version I like to see in exploration.

REDESIGN THE STARS VISIBLITY ON THE GALAXY MAP

- Only occupied star system, and star inbetween these occupied system will be shown on the gallaxy map.

- Stars that have yet to be discovered remains invisible on the map because their exact location is uncharted.

- We should have new separate survey devices that specifically triangulate or probe for the unknown stars location.

- With the coordinate of the stars , pilots will now have to navigate to the stars ... which should require skills

(eg. like evading the interdiction requires skills) to arrive close to the star body. Where I should suggest

there is no way the flight data were entered into the ship's device - these precious data can be easily stolen by

powerful corporations who built those ships, they have to be manually navigated by experienced hands to it's

destination. The longer the distance the higher chance of error.... each try get the pilot

closer to the star.

- After arrival near the target star .... the scanning procedures can begin. The scanning can follow OP's suggestion.

- I will stress this ... most stars more than 150,000Ly are often ignored and no one wants to do that sort of travel for one star.

So ... instead of having stars being left out please design a probe system so our physical ship can do the short range ones and

set up drones to travel at high speed to collect the far away ones. Limit the such drones to one drone per ship. So pilot cannot

mass scan with multiple drones. (Here you introduce multi tasking, keeps the player busy and not bored.)

- Stars will only show up on the gallaxy map when players sell those data to the office.

- Do think about additional content like alien artifacts and drop one far away star systems, which explorer could see in special

science offices for research and things along that line.

And please remove the super scanner that reveal all planet in one click , without any level of challenge it makes the game

really boring in a very short time.

I really like this idea, but it got me thinking, why stop at just the discovery scanners with upgrades, normal scanners could be upgraded in the livery as well (the more expensive scanner allows more software slots). This could open up combat mini games with better stealth scanners to detect silent running and improved range distances for example, kind of a build your own software kit. The bones are on this game they just need fleshing out a bit.

I proposed upgrade mechanics, technically so called software upgrades might be applied to many sub-systems

note: first post tweaked again

A nice feature to have would be (optional, able-to-be-toggled) HUD display of scanner data. Star type, planet atmosphere composition/orbital elements, that sort of thing. Probably as a more-expensive scanner module feature? I know they want to keep the HUD uncluttered, but having a bit extra for interest while exploring would be appreciated.

Today, I'm more than 1000lys away from the core systems, exploring on a non-regular route like towards the center of the galaxy or the certain stellar constellations – though all systems here still already fully explored, as big names on every stellar body are saying. As an explorer, I'm saying that FD has lots of development work to do before this game is becoming attractive for non-first explorers like me again. So sad that I've got to quit the game since it has become such an uninspiring sci fi shooter. Very few of the PS4 or X-Box clients will "explore" a universe, which has been explored long before they've got a chance to do it. With leaving exploration so extremly behind, FD is betraying its most important source of its unique success. It's so sad, that it's going to end as just another arcarde shooter in the history books, instead of being in a row with Star Trek, the Carl Sagan Series et. al. So sad.

I suspect XBox (& PS4) will have their own servers/galaxies.

But I do agree that the exploration experience needs to be deepened from both a technical game mechanic POV, and also from just an experience/wonder POV (eg: the unknown, rather than throw of a dice difference coloured balls).

well afaik they said it will be combined in terms economy, maybe the 'first to explore' tag will be reset (cleared) for consoles ....
so some boom in trade as effect or faction dominance could be crossplatform
