What is and isnt enabled for 2.0 merit grind

I joined a power that gave bounus on Donations. I then stole 4000t of paladium and 3000t of gold from a muppet wanting a wing to... "deliver goods for them".
I was like sure Ill just store it in my carriers ""Secure Goods Department"". Sold the items to my FC then abandoned the missions. :)
Then I found a system that wanted Donations of Paladium and Gold for the Power.
Sold the Stuff to myself then Handed them in as.... DoNaTiOnS DuH.
Rank 100 in a 2 days.
Its not brilliant after though, as finding the correct donation missions in a system that actually needs work doing for the power rather than just merits for yourself is not easy at all.
But for getting top lvl bonuses tis good.

Fdev have been told about this and have done nothing since FCs came out. So I guess its fair game as I know a DEV was told because I told them :)

Moving stuff around is what CMDRs do. :)

I spent yesterday laser mining platinum in a LYR stronghold system. After selling about 1100 tons, I went from rank 26 to rank 55. EASILY the most lucrative activity I've found for merit gains so far.
I tried exploration, exo-bio, bounty hunting, commodity trading and the limited number of power CZs that I could get to work. All of those activities combined fell short of selling mined goods.

It is possible to go from a low rank to rank 100 with 10000 tons of silver or gold, If you buy it at less than 5k/t and sell it for average market prices. The catch is that you would need to sell it 1 ton at a time to get the max merits and I don't know anyone who would willingly do that. It IS possible though.

PSA for all LYR agents: If core mining is your thing, go to Kehperagwe. If laser mining; Wargis.
Oh... that old exploit is still about hey...

Which bit is an exploit?
The whole flipping the wing mission goods through the FC. It works with wing missions only, because of a design oversight. If you don't turn the goods in, you're meant to get fined for each tonne of goods that dont make it. Solo missions work like that, but wing missions don't... presumably because at the time they were designed, FD felt like giving a fine to everyone in the wing for lost goods, when one wing member lost some was a bit unfair.

Unfortunately they never thought of that with FCs.

EDIT: FWIW, I saw the "report" that went to FD... whether deliberately or not, it put emphasis on flipping stolen goods through an FC (which yes, is working as expected) and glossed over the whole "didn't get fined by the faction who i just ripped off" part.

Hi
I am at wargis now quick question.... I take it it is the blue gas giant with the metallic ring (13 I think). I will be keeping clear of the Haz Res however for PP which is better a panite hot spot or a platinum one?
Normally I would choose panite but just checking
thanks.

Anyhoo, this free rebuys for all seems to be designed to directly encourage PvP and otherwise getting into trouble. Just sayin' 🤪

Only for combat players, who retain the merits they’ve earned after death. I much prefer peaceful means to earn merits. Why would I care about a two million credit rebuy, when there’s 20 million credits worth of cargo in my hold? Why would I risk 2000 merits to gain 200?

That being said… I’ve done exactly that with NPCs. But against an aggressive player? Not against those probable odds.

Out of interest has anyone been doing anything with trading?

Yes. If you know how, and what to look for, you can earn merits at a fairly decent rate. I’m regularly in the top 20% on the leaderboard, and that’s for my normal schedule, where I’m lucky if I can squeeze in five hours a week. And I’m operating strategically, rather than to maximize my merit generation.

But I’ve always traded old-school, carrying a diverse cargo load to minimize risk when visiting unknown stations, and to maximize finding missions with synnergy. You can’t use Inara to trade this way.

A lot of your weekly tasks will require you to raid multiple sites in hostile, acquisition, and (in some cases) friendly systems.
To be fair, you can do these the sneaky way without killing any NPC-s. But it's much harder (have to sit still for 60 seconds to download/upload very illegal stuffz while the guards are prowling around, not something I'm very good at) and there seems to be a glitch where even after shutting down settlement alarms, the local alarm at the data point goes sometimes off. At least it happened to me several times in burning settlements, which resulted the present allied Powerplay NPC-s to aggro on me--for downloading data that's used to reinforce our own power in the system 🤪

Each of us have our own taste:) I very much prefer doing combat stuff, I find it quite effective (bounty hunting averages somewhere around 2000 merits per one ammo load of my Pacifier PII; and if RNGsus smiles in PP signal sources, there's three high level opforce Anacondas/Pythons giving 300 merits each). I can't even remember when was the last time I bulk traded or mined something, it's just not for me.

Hi. I am running low on limpets so will have to be selling and restocking soon. to help my power generally is there a preferred system state to sell my ore in or will any system my power has influence in do? am at Wargis so only a few jumps from diaguandri stronghold if strongholds are preferred (and I can tweak my build whilst there too)
whilst am at it I shall also Google and see if I can find out elsewhere however a lot of the info seems to have changed over the last few months with balance passes etc

edit it seems I have to sell in the system I mines it in for PP to count. good to know ! :)

Hi m8, Platinum is best for laser.

Acquisition systems you need to mine in the related fortified or stronghold system.
Reinforcement you need to mine right in the very system you want to reinforce and sell it there as well.
Undermining you need to mine right in the very system you want to undermine and sell it there as well. Furthermore this system needs to be in range of your fortification/stronghold and the goods in question must be in demand.

Disclaimer: Maybe :)

Platinum is generally considered the best choice for laser mining. Panite used to be the best and before that low temp diamonds but both of those have been hit with the nerf bat.

thanks. I had a couple of runs today mining on my steam deck and was shocked to see I am in the top 10% already. I was not expecting to get close to that. doubt I will stay there but maybe I can sneak into the 25% bonus.

I tried rare-trading...but it's still turned off

I still move around the powerplay commodities though - the merits aren't great (I get about 2000 merits for 350t) but it's quite a chill way of making merits while you play something else (just log in every 30 minutes to get your allotment of stuffz)

This isn't a glitch, if it's in-use, any NPC who sees the data port will investigate. Alarms will just mean the entire settlement is alerted if you download an alarmed data, or upload something.

But even with alarms off, you need to keep NPCs away from the data port or otherwise have a good hiding spot.

This one.

When the download is in progress, if unlawful ,regardless of alarm state, displays in the area will change to show the access occurring, and nearby NPCs will investigate.

It's not dissimilar to ebreaches... even if you disable alarms, using an ebreach will still attract unwanted attention.

I'm not talking about NPC-s seeing you accessing the data port. What I mean, if I turned the alarms off in the past before Powerplay update I didn't get flashing red lights/screens near the data point when I downloaded illegal data in shut-down settlements (I always turn alarms off when doing reboot missions, the flashing lights are annoying). But it happens now, and if NPC-s are somewhere nearby outside the building or otherwise out of line-of-sight, they come to investigate. Even scavengers do that and give you a fine for illegal download. Sure seems like a glitch to me.
