I see this thrown around in discussions, but I haven't the faintest of what it is. Can someone please elaborate?

Close Quarters Combat
Just another excuse to rack in money from boners for pew pew (the ships turn faster and handle faster to appease them to be similar to the trailer) and will be translated to our PC/Mac menu as a simulator option but has totally nothing to do within the Universe. Naff huh!
It will therefore not improve our actual skills within Elite because the flight dynamics are totally different.
If you had actually watched the live stream with frontier you would realise that the flight model is the same the only thing changing is the way you lock onto targets with your target dropping when you lose los. The condor is the most manoeuvrable ship frontier has made and will be available as seen in cqc on the full game.
If you read the last newsletter they state the flight dynamics have been altered for faster playing style. I totally agree, and I personally couldn't care any less about this feature. In a way I kind of find this depressing. Why? Well... For well over THREE DECADES the console gaming community has not seen ANY SPACE BASED / SIMULATION level game like Elite Dangerous even be suggested as a viable IP and genre for the console market, leave alone actually see a game come to market and become a reality as ED has!
FINALLY! A game that doesn't insult my intelligence and that contains INTELLIGENT, THOUGHTFUL, and COMPLEX gameplay and feature elements. And what is the first NEW thing they bring out for the game after it makes its console debut?
Insert gigantic YAWN HERE.... CQC!
I can't squeeze two fingers together tight enough to indicate HOW LITTLE interest I have in this "FPS IN SPACE" feature addition! The maps look VERY interesting, an I wouldn't mind seeing NEW and more detailed locations like this in the actual game, but more than likely I am never going to get a chance to see these maps for myself, because I have no plans to EVER load up this mode, even if only to see what it looks like! I'm a SOLO ONLY ED gamer, so there is literally nothing in CQC for someone like me.
And to think, this mode is likely the reason why we have been made to SUFFER through this current TERRIBLE BUILD of the main XB1 game so that they can release this "Joe Six Pack might buy the game if we add what he always wants" feature at the next big trade show on August 5th.
When they mention the "Dumbing Down" of a previously PC based simulation game for a console audience, THIS is the kind of move that comes to mind for me. A literal dumbing down, because I guess Microsoft and SONY must honestly believe that their customer base is populated by a majority with Room Temperature IQs!
Bah!
Not me! And not anyone posting in this forum! We've got a little more intelligence than that! And we can see when we are being pandered to, and we can definitely see that once again, another game developer is catering to the LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR in the room!
I really thought this game and this developer was going to bring a long overdue breath of fresh air to what to me has been an incredibly STALE past, present and future next generation console game catalog!
Right... Playing to the GTA5 reference... If I want that kind of gameplay, I will fire up my PS4 or XB1 and sign into GTA Online! I don't think ED is ever going to match Rockstar's masterpiece when it comes to that kind of gameplay. And if I want that kind of gameplay, I will turn to the KING of Pew Pew Pew, not a space simulator trying to be something it is not.
I know that CQC is also coming to the PC and Mac after the XB1 version has launched and I guess somewhat settled in... But my point was that the impetus for this whole "module" branching off the main game was inspired by what I still believe is an attempt to bring a more "Arcady" component to the game.
FD has always maintained that if one version gets a feature addition, then at some point ALL versions will eventually see the same addition added to their version.
How does the PC community feel about this whole CQC thing? Do they see it like I do? A somewhat predictable addition to the game that kind of feeds on the console gamer stereotype as the type player who abhors anything with depth and complexity, and all whom never get tired of the same basic formula of "Pew, Pew, Pew" and more "Pew", and heaven forbid if a game would dare to offer anything that could in any way be considered to possess a "Learning Curve" beyond the usual proprietary things requiring the remembering of button combos used for reload, switch weapons and pick up ammo off the ground etc.
A stereotype that to me, always paints a picture of some fat, lazy basement dwelling loser with a confirmed case of ADHD!![]()
