I r confuze.
I'm interested too after being out in the black for a while.
The main thing I've been doing are some Planetary Scan jobs.. Been paying out about £1.1m each, generally less than 20ly to travel, scan system, land, scan data point, return. Can all be done in about 20 minutes.

I'm slavetrading at the moment because the passenger missions aren't fixed yet, they're working on it though.
I hope it gets fixed soon, it was fun and quite lucrative, just what I needed for the interior decoration of my brand new Conda.
Slavetrading can be very lucrative when you find a good route but it's rather boring, so not longer then a couple days for me.

Honestly. I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about with passenger missions. I made about 55 million doing tourist missions over about 4 hours post the supposed nerf. Maybe it's cause the system is in a war state. Not sure.
Collect commodities. Go to a station that imports them or need them.
Wait for missions to pop up that want those commodities. The pay is good!

I earned my billions on bulk imp slave trading and bounty hunting. Eddb.io is good at finding alright trade routes until you could figure out one for yourself. There were times i would prospect for a route for a week until i found one to run for a few days. I would make around 100-200 million on those runs though.

Conflict zones pay well, very very well sometimes.
Do they pay more now than they did prior to the patch?
I would say it all depends on the factions handing out the "massacre" missions. I don't really know what makes some factions produce very few and some to keep throwing money at you like it's on fire. Getting allied status is really the only key I think matters.
I made 40 million in two days at a CZ right before the patch, which isn't bad. I had to play both sides and mode switch because I could get maybe 1-2 missions.
I'm out at Draconis 17, almost done with their war (4/5 days), I've made 600 million, playing one side, no mode switching. I don't know if it's a bug or they changed it last patch, but all my massacre missions are on a 20h time limit. And Jet Bridge is handing out 12-18 million credit missions 2-3 every time I go back.

Well, looks like the system state changed at Wu Guanagi and the 12-15 million tourist missions I was getting now pay a tenth of that. Made 80 million in two days so I guess I can't complain. I believe the system was in Civil War or just straight War state previously Did this Sunday and Monday and Monday was supposedly "post nerf". Was getting 20+ million missions before and 12-15 million missions post nerf. I'm going to check out some War/Boom/Civil War systems and see if I can get similar results.
Have the payouts for kills increased or did you just kill a stupid amount of NPC's?
No the payouts for kills are the same, the "massacre x amount of ships" is where 95% of the money comes from.
Everytime I've done them missions in the past its been in some back water system where I have to interdict pirates at a rate of one every three months...
Lol, occasionally I have ran into those as well, systems in war, but no CZ's, I always just gave up and moved on. I think they fixed that issue though, along with the bug where CZ's would only show up in open or solo but not both.
Just look for the USS, but they do take awhile
Even still, when they wanted 75 pirates dead, the USS still took aaaaaaages.
