Power metal and a female voice calming? In my world that is an oxymoron. The answer is that you are listening to a female voice and have underlying emotional and sexual attractions to it. Then the music doesn't matter as much as wanting to hear that voice. It sells records. Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand did amazing well with this long before power metal. I know running a recording studio for years and how to sell that voice. It works out for everyone as the artists get paid and the listeners feel that their life is enhanced with this music. Look at all the replies so far on this thread to see how music and a voice can effect people.

Well, many "male" voices in today's pop scene are the "nasal falsett" (Bee Gees with a stuffed nose). I find that rather annoying....

Typically different range and specifically timbre.

As a general rule they literally have a softer voice. But sure, not denying there's something psychological in there. Not maternal for me, but the bit that loves all musical females.
