What is Lifetime season pass ?

I deliberately avoided purchasing a LEP for entirely different reasons which I've expressed in more detail before - the financial & motivation implications for the game; the outpouring of love & trust in buying a LEP gives the company a nice big lump sum to re-invest (let's not even speculate whether those funds were diverted to other projects) but causes a decrease in demand & consequently, potential revenue from each new DLC 📉😟 - that's an incontrovertible fact - which of course, makes this business model relatively less appealing & pushes other models to the forefront for a profit-motivated entity. Anyone who knows the story of how Mr Braben dealt with Ian Bell's rights to the intellectual property of Elite can see that profit is very much a priority at the expense of all other considerations; behold - the rise of the micro-transaction.📈😆

Many people defending LEPs are doing it sometimes out of cognitive dissonance but often pure denial! It reminds me of parents who smoke in their houses & when one explains the dangers of passive smoking on their kids - they get indignant & block out any guilt by deluding themselves; but let's be plain - they have almost certainly harmed their own kids' development! Just like LEP holders have almost certainly harmed Elite's; the only issue up for debate is, to what degree?!

I wonder how long this post will last in the 'Innocuous Discussions' section.:censored:
Sorry but what nonsense! A LEP/Season pass what ever is money in the bank for FD it allows them to know up front they have a minimum amount to build their game (assuming the company is honest and invest the money in that game) it is partly done on faith/ trust that the game will be developed wisely as well that in the long haul it will end up financially sound for the customer as well (after all you are essentially giving over money interest free). Whilst there may be nothing to stop a company from not delivering once, any company worth their salt will want to be in it for the long haul. If punters feel they get a good deal with elite they are more likely to buy other products and vice versa . IF the LEP was harming elite then by the same loic so was KSer and yet without it if FD are to be believed we would not have gotten a game at all.

Given how much play I have had out of the game I have already had more than enough value for my money and it's not over yet.
Looking back, with all the money I've been spending on ED, I'm now at less than 0.05€ per hour in game. I've been spending a lot more money/hour on other games. On the rational side all is good

Agreed .... I got the pre-Horizons LEP and am more than happy given the amount of time played.

How long do most AAA game "run-through" last ? 50-100 hours ?

I'm currently on 55 weeks of in-game time, so (even with the LEP) I'm very happy with my "price per hour" entertainment value.

I paid like $15 or something for Minecraft and have probably around 5K to 10K hours in it in total, if I had to guess, still host 3 servers for it on a VM, and of course have gotten many updates over many years. I generally prefer to play on version 1.8.9 though. Just seems more "Minecraft" to me.

Regardless, you seem a little confused. The LEP didn't purchase play time, it purchased additional expansions. The play time people got for a lot less included in the purchase of the base game and content purchases regardless of the LEP.

Yes, I understand that, but (as others have mentioned above) the LEP allowed me not to have to worry about whether to buy an expansion or not. I just got them "for free".

I guess what I'm saying is that I could afford to but it, I'm happy to have paid it (as it also gave some extra funding to FDev) and I perceive that I've got value from it (whatever metric you might use) ... horses for courses 😊

Problem is, if you only look at it this way Frontier could simply sell 4 ships costing €40 each and give them for free to all LEPers. I guess the truth is somewhere in the middle.

Ships aren't expansions as outlined by Frontier, so why the confusion? I was talking about what playing time was included in. Naturally you can't play a game that has no content, regardless of the quality and type of content or whatever, which I wasn't discussing.
