In the update log, it's mentioned that "Media Foundation" is needed for Planet zoo to support custom sounds using the .mp3, .wav, .aac, and .m4a file types. Does anyone know what this is about?

Google always has the answer.
Media Foundation is a service from Microsoft added in a Windows update from 2018. (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/medfound/about-the-media-foundation-sdk)
If your windows still has an update that is older than 2018 I guess it won't work.
Edit: I see one of the devs/com managers has answered in the main thread.
