There is no reason FD can't answer the question.
I have sent the question to the newsletter Mostly Harmless Questions mailbox. I hope for a response next Friday.
However, there is no sense to have it a pentagon and split values unless there is a specific reason behind it. If there are 8 classes of weapon then an Octagon makes sense and a Pentagon does not.
Or do you have a real explanation for this oddity?
I don't mean to be aggressive but I find your response to be a bit odd since an Octagon would serve the same purpose, be more granular and be super-easy to understand.
I'm not saying it isn't odd. But since the pattern fits that seems to be it's intended purpose. I can't tell you why a pentagon is being used since it wasn't my decision.
An Octagon wouldn't really cover what the Pentagon does. Really the difference between Class 1 and 2 weapons in unimportant. There are no class 1 mount. Mounts only have even numbers. So if it helps I can rephrase the idea.
1/5 Non weapons
2/5 Weapons that fit class 2 hard points
3/5 Weapons that fit class 4 hard points
4/5 Weapons that fit class 6 hard points
5/5 Weapons that fit class 8 hard points
That is the same information but you can see with 4 sizes of hard points and non weapons that is 5 things.
But I don't think this will be solved by discussion. Facts win arguments. My challenge still stands - find me a ship module that breaks that pattern.
