What is the best mining ship in the new upcomming update?

From what I've seen from beta (as a Xbox Commander), the bigger ships might be too big to do next-gen mining?
In Beta I just refitted my existing mining Anaconda with the extra tools and gave it a go - didn't really have any problems, but it was a bit slow for quickly checking out the highlighted rocks.

In Live I think I'll be keeping the Anaconda for traditional mining only, and using either a Cobra III or maybe a Krait Phantom for core mining.

That's my current plan, keep my big miners (T9 for Ice Mining, Cutter for non-ice) for traditional mining, and have a Python and Cobra MKIV for next-gen mining.

With the mining hard-point inflation that Chapter 4 brings, I still think we need large mining lasers, and huge would be a bonus.

You need hard points and lots of them, if you want to keep your booty.
You need 4 gun ports for all the mining toys, then if you want to shoot anything, you need more.
You also need lots of internal space and utility slots for other mining equipment.
Remember you also need a cargo bay.
I found that Asp-E could work, but lack of cargo space means it wasn't too profitable.
So as others have said, bigger ships are probably best.

If the Python ends up being the best ship AGAIN at the new thing, that for me would be a sign that Frontier went wrong somewhere with the design of the new mining system. It's getting old that if you want the best ship for role X you choose the Python. Outside of pure combat, is there anything the Python isn't perfect for?

Even last night, I was doing haulage missions and I wanted to use my big beautiful Cutter which took me forever to get, but the missions available for my Cutter were from 800kCr - 1.2MCr whereas there were missions only the Python could do (180t to outposts) that I was able to do over and over again at 8.3MCr. I can't turn down that kind of money, but I am really really tired of the Python being so far and away clear the best ship in the game.

I wish Frontier could even the tables a little. Most missions are either for 120t - 180t or 5000+t. How about 650t or 700t haulage missions for the Type-9 and the Cutter that the Python can't do in one go? Just to reward pilots who put the effort in to get a big haulage ship?

I know the Python is going to be way better at deep core mining but I am going to outfit a Type-10 anyway.

The Challenger makes a good medium capacity (64T) mining ship plenty of hard points and decent agility, I tried my T10 miner but found placing seismic charges hard work and as some of the hard points are well off centre the drill missile can be hard to aim as well.

Ultimately a mining wing would be the most efficient approach with a pair of medium ships as prospector/miners and a T10 configured for refining, collection and defensive cover (perhaps an SLF as well)

Try the Mamba for Core mining. Fun handling and awesome visuals while boosting through the asteroids, plus a sense of tension while trying to fill the little 32 tons of cargo space with enough rare stuff to earn $8 million to maybe $10 million credits per haul.

I'll be going with my Python. It needs a new job since the Krait took over as my multirole, and a medium vessel is well suited to outpost mining missions.

The Corvette was the best mining ship before, and will remain the best mining ship after.

But, as many other posters have said, you can mine in almost anything.

I like the T10 for the space. Just watch the hardpoint placement as some can be tricky to work out where they'll fire the seismic charges, for example.

For old style mining I'll stick with my T-9.

For deep core I'll refit my Driftship with abrasion and seismic, although a Viper IV is good for a quick run.

Python for me I think. Lots of space for modules and cargo, not too big and agile enough to dance around the asteroids.
Also tried the Cobra IV in Coriolis, but the limited cargo space is kinda annoying. Not sure. Will try both perhaps. :)

Unfortunately no simple answer. There are a lot of options depending on what type of mining you plan to do. Personally I am going for the the T-10, Hunting motherlode asteroids in ice rings. Around 400 tonne capacity, the sheer number of hardpoints and internals on the T-10 means I can stock up on seismic charges and other toys, estimated earnings during beta from a full payload is around 80 million credits. The view from the bridge isn't bad either.

I've been eyeing the T10 for a week now ,cheap for what you get so when the update drops a mining I will go in my brand new T10.

You sold me on it.
