General / Off-Topic What Is the Best Operating System

I do not know if Windows is the best, but it is the most used. Thus the software library for Windows is huge. The others operating systems are also excellent but more marginal

The best OS is simply the one that runs your critical application in the way you require.

Wether that is Windows or z/OS or VMS or GEM or AmigaOS or whatever - if it's the only one that can do what you want, it's the best :)

For me Windows is my choice, why? as a gamer it is between al major PC gaming platforms the one and only huge leading platform. So that is where de bulk of games are made for. That is where driver game profiles are optimised for the largest of popular games. And as portal to mij favo games it largly fullfill the needs.

Consoles is different there are two big once each there exclusives. So got a PS4 to and probaly get a xb one to.

PC is also the dev platform for most games so good support for that. Got VS2012 works very well.
It is also the much more fully mod supporting platform.

I tried
Long ago
SuSe linux 6.x
Mandrake
Redhat intranet server on BP6 dual celeron.
OS 2 warp.
BeOS

Ubuntu server with desktop
Ms server 2012 R2 essentials.

The whole dos to W8.1.

I wish there was more real competition.
Like to se OS2/warp become big.
And BeOS as modern no legacy OS.

The problem is drivers support. Windows got to big so without driver support it is lost.
Linux wel if you go for the human nature a cheap free OS then you get your audience

Well I stick to Windows.

Mac never used it.

Ios devices I have

That's easy. QNX! Closely followed by NuttX and Harmony.

Then again, you really only learn to appreciate them if you do space stuff for a living. I don't think you can even get Harmony outside some military project. But QNX is cool (and much more modern than Harmony), and much easier to get and try out.

EDIT: OP is banned... Also I gotta try out this "Androaid" he mentioned :p

QNX indeed, an awesome real-time OS.

Personally I'd say Windows for general/gaming
Mac/Windows for audio/visual
Solaris/FreeBSD for server duties

Windows, Mac,Linux, or Androaid

What is the best vehicle? A moped, a bike, a car, a truck, a jet, or a space shuttle?

The Eternal Answer That Ends All Religious Wars: it depends on what you need it for.

I'd pick Windows or Linux over the others any day when it comes a work environment. Windows is the clear winner for gaming on.

Mac OS is pretty much useless if you want to do anything more than basic stuff, it's not flexible at all.

Android is just Linux in disguise :p

I've always preferred Linux, and that's what I've exclusively used for work. However, I recently migrated all my home computers to 100% Linux, and I don't miss Windows one bit. I've made it a habit to exclusively buy games available on Linux in the past 4 years, and as a result, I'm not missing out on any gaming whatsoever. (With the exception of Elite Dangerous, which is why I haven't funded it yet.)
