What is the best Voice Attack profile to use with E:D?

Would you guys say the Text-to-speech is better than the pre-recorded Vocal Response Compilation's you can buy?

(I'm using Windows 7 if that helps)

I guess that would depend on what you wanted. As far as I'm aware with VRCs you are reliant on the set that they have in them, whereas text-to-speech will say whatever you type. It may not be quite as smooth, but it depends on what you want.

I, for example, say "I got one" and Hazel says back to me "Great kid don't get cocky"

Windows 7 only has one voice by default and it's not great, so I'd recommend downloading one.

I don't use voice packs. I use IVONA Amy TTS voice which was an english accent quite close to that of the ship's voice in ED. I prefer it this way because I can create my own custom responses. Besides, I don't know if VA supports having random responses with audio files like it does with TTS...

I've yet to find a way to randomise audio files as responses so like you I'm putting Amy to good use ;)

The best iv found was the one i made my self. Bought IVONA Amy TTS and love the voice.

I know all commands and almost never say the wrong commands. The profile also expand as i get better with voiceattacks features.

There is a way to do it, but it's more cumbersome than the TTS method. You'd have to first generate a random number, and then use conditionals for each audio file. Gary had said before he wanted to have randomized sounds too, but the interface got very complex. Might still be in the works.

It is available if you go to the voice attack website there is a single example of random conditional responses but its not brilliantly clear how its done. So I stuck to just using whichever of the 700 appealed to me.

I probably should look how its done and get it working then see how it goes.

What you will then need is something to turn your TTS (Text-To-Speech) voice pack into .mp3 files for use in VA. Having looked around the web for a while, I came across http://www.cross-plus-a.com/balabolka.htm which is free, very simple to use, and has absolutely loads of additional functionality if you want to start tweaking pronunciation, talking speed, pitch, etc. I am by no means an expert, but it works a treat as far as I am concerned!

Just need to spend most of the weekend creating several hundred .mp3s now *sigh*

No You dont VA supports text to speech directly, select say with text to speech and it says it.

If you want to put extra effects on then yes you would need to create mp3's, i found it works fine as it is.

As a general rule, make commands simple, not too short, not too long. Too short and you might trigger them by accident, too long and you'll waste time when in an emergency. Two words usually do it. Avoid commands like "boost"... some players have lost their ship by triggering it accidentaly inside a station.
....and never, ever, bind "jettison cargo" to a voice command. I got owned so hard by that one :D

Or just use Speech2Keys. It has that functionality automatically built in (if you define more than one response one will be chosen at random each time. You can also just set a checkbox for a slew of predefined general responses like "OK, Affirmative, You got it, ... " (customizable/extendable by the user, of course)
First tutorial and link for download is here:

(it's free, as in 'beer'...because I wrote it specifically for playing ED :D )
No support for mp3/wav responses, yet (it only reads responses you typed in). But if there is demand I could add that over the weekend.
