What is the blue marker for next to object in the navigation pane on Target Panel

Anybody know what the blue marker on the Navigation Pane within the Target Panel is for?

The orange marker shows the object locked on to, but I don't understand the significance of the blue marker.

I would also like to know the answer. There is a couple of people asking this on the internet, but no replies.

The blue marker usually shows you where you are - e.g. which faction is running the current station you are in.

So I guess in the navigation panel it shows up when you are at a location, i.e. you are within the save drop-out range.

I guess the OP means the blue rings around planets/stations as you approch. Not that I know what they are :)

I think possibly it's to do with which celestial body is your current frame of reference wrt velocity. I could more than likely be wrong though.

I've been in since PB and that blue marker is new, at least to Gamma, possibly Alpha release. Personally I have no idea what it's about - I guessed at it meaning the thing had something of interest, mission based perhaps, or whatever but so far that appears not to be so. My feeling is it's a yet to be fully implemented item.

Someone in another website said it was "where you are with some fudging for POIs". It always seems to be on nav beacons, USS and that kind of things. Never on planets/stations (but I may be wrong). So... it may be the closest spawned point of interest. But who knows.

(I couldn't make a proper link in the other post because my user group doesn't let me)

WP got it right, it's just your current position, as it is on the Galaxy map. If you're flying around in search of USSs, you'll see it pop up next to them as they spawn.

It seems like it is something of interest. If a USS appears as your heading to your destination, it sticks a blue marker next to it in the nav pane.

When you are in a station without any active mission or cargo in your hold:
  • Take a look in the left panel, navigation tab, note that blue marker highlighting your current location = the station you are in.
  • Take a look in the right panel, status tab, reputation sheet, note that blue marked highlighting the minor faction running the station you are in.

That does make sense. But what about when you are in SC and the blue marker in the navagation panel is next to a USS, WSS, SSS, or similar?
