What is the point of Alliance reputation other than homeworld access?

Title pretty much says it all - I was reading about the Alliance in the wiki after seeing I had a status with them. It's not really clear to me what the point of rep with them is though?

I see you can get a 20% discount on the orca and stuff, but is that about it? That and the novelty of rep?

I suspect they intended to put some, or all, of the Alliance ships behind a rank grind wall as they did the Imperial and Federation ships, but for whatever reason decided against it.

Also, superpower reputation amplifies the effect of rep gains and losses with aligned minor factions.
E.g
  • If you're allied to Federation, your rep gains and losses are substantial with relevant minor factions.
  • if you're hostile to federation, rep gains and losses are significantly reduced.

Take special note of losses being included here. If you're hostile with a superpower, it will take far longer to move from neutral to hostile rep with an aligned faction than if you were allied.

And the Krait.

CMDR Saool was looking around the Krait flight deck in VR when it first came into the game, and found Alliance decals on the corners of the floor plate behind the main chair.

You can paint it over (Frontier patched it out) but you will never blacken its beating Alliance heart.

So Krait is Alliance too.

But Lakon Ships are the officially recognised Alliance ships, but we don't lock them behind a grindwall (you're welcome).
When the DBX was introduced - the Alliance Elite Diplomatic Corps hosted a Community Goal for a shipyard at Hamilton Gateway in Wolf 406.
You can still get the DBX at a whopping 20% discount there.
ASP you can get in Alioth for 15% off from memory.

AEDC made our own Alliance ranking system.
When you log your contributions to AEDC Operations, the type and amount of effort counts toward your next diplomatic posting. I'm currently an Assistant Cultural Attache to Helios.
I'll send you tickets to the Film Festival we're running.

It's no different to reputation with the federation or empire (you don't gain anything tangible by getting allied to either, except a positive impact on reputation gain with minor factions and a slight variance on how the AI reacts to you in certain situations - ie how you're greeted, how often you're scanned). Whilst reputation is important to enable the faster reputation gain with affiliated minor factions and so faster unlocks for missions (and so the rank missions for feds and emps and also missions for permits), there's no direct reward for it.

It's there as a measurement of your reputation in reaction to your actions and has an impact on how the game reacts to you. It's not a grind wall to overcome. It's closer to a lore feature than anything else.

It's definitely nothing to do with ships. That's not to be confused with ranks, which Alliance never had (not certain they ever will do either, they're not a military entity, that I'm aware of).

The Empire and Federation reward you with access to ships. The Alliance rewarded with an e-mail in your comms panel.
that's not true.
you get access to federal/imperial ships by ranking in their auxiliary navy (and taking rank up missions).
you can be allied to the empire without having/gaining access to any of their ships.

You can be allied with a faction that is under the Empire, but you can't rank up with Empire without getting access to their ships.

I wasn't aware alliance reputation had any permits associated with it - Alioth is accessible via the various factions associated with it, not the empire status itself?
