What is the point of the Type 10?

Granted I took a bit of a break from the game but perhaps there is something that I'm not understanding here. What exactly is the point of the Type 10? I was under the impression that it was designed to defend against or fight the Thargoids, right? If that is the case I guess what I don't understand is why can it only carry the same amount of AX weapons that any other ship can carry, and really doesn't have anything going for it that I can see yet, even engineered... I would think if you keep the principle of thrust to weight ratio in mind that it would turn a bit better with all of those massive engines... lol...

What am I missing here? Is this ship actually suppose to be a hunter of thargoids or what is it's purpose?

You're not missing anything. I built one maxed it with engineers and sold it. I fair much better against Thargoids in the humble FAS. The speed and maneuverability is a far better attribute than "tankiness"........this is my personal opinion I should add. I'm sure others love it. Cockpit was nice.

I like mining in mine, and it's fun to use vs NPC ships, but I don't like it in Thargoid combat, the hard point convergence makes it difficult for me. Maybe if we had gimballed AX weapons.

It's a great RES miner, and handles great in the rocks there.

I've been running mine with four large pulse turrets, two medium gimballed multis, and a pair of small rails. Backed up by a single SLF. My favorite mining ship, for sure.

How about 4 large AX weapons, 3 medium flack cannons (should keep the swarms at bay), and a couple of small laser turrets to help tale the shields down. Makes good use of all the available hard points.

While the original idea behind Type 10 was to be a Thargoid killer (tank hull and 4 large hardpoints), the fact that is so slow and sluggish, with poor weapons convergence and coupled with an almost same price as an Anaconda, made it a poor choice in this direction.

However, it is an upgrade to Type 9 in all maters (with a minus in cargo capacity if you want a shield - the minimum shield requirement is higher, so the cargo capacity is lower), so armed trader, miner, etc. can be a good role for it.

Does it have to have a point? I welcome any new ship to the game, variety is the spice of life.

Well I too welcome more ships, and as far as I'm concerned the more we have the better! But, my question still stands. Is the Type 10 suppose to be a Thargoid hunting ship or what is it's intended use?

I use mine as a miner, I don't think it's designed to fight Thargoids solo. I think of it more as a multi-crew Thargoid killer ship.

As with all ships, you either take to it or don't.
Many people seem to enjoy the T10 quite much.
There's something for everyone.

I guess what I'm having an issue wrapping my head around here is, okay the ship was built with thargoids in mind. Yet, it cannot hold any more AX equipment than any other ship. Half the ship is engine from the looks of the ship from outside of it and yet it turns like it's stuck in a tar pit even engineered G5. Now I wouldn't expect it to turn quickly by any means keeping it's size in mind, however with those engines I would expect a little more out of it... lol... None of it really makes sense to me I guess...

You must be referring to that horrid SC roll... it's been remarked on countlessly- hopefully FD improves it. Out of SC it rolls more normally (albeit slowly, which is still to be expected for balance reasons) and no engineering will affect SC performance.

OT, the Type-10 is just another choice of ship- some will fly it, some won't. Personally other than the SC roll I like it. YMMV :)

As others have mentioned, I made it into a mining ship. It only has a class 6 Power Distributor, so I engineered it to level 5, charge enhanced. I have 2 medium and 2 small mining lasers, the rest are a bunch of turreted pulse lasers for defense when the odd pirate shows up in the rings. Thankfully, the system I mine in is a High Security system, so I seldom have to care about the pirates. :)
