What is the point of the Type 10?

I was thinking of building an SAR ship and I was wondering if, due to it's superb thermal characteristics, it might be especially suited to station rescues?

On the down-side, I'm thinking that it's size and shape might be a hindrance while attempting to get around inside the mangled stations.

Op, face the truth. There will never be a ship to rival the Anaconda. Put that ship out of your mind. Once you remove the Anaconda as the best miner, the best exploration ship, the best AX, the best non rank locked cargo ship, many more big ships in the game make sense.

There's a Type-10 appreciation thread here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/396048-Type-10-Defender-Club in which Cmdr Mengy says he was taking one to do just this. He's still around in the forum, so I guess he survived ! :) If you ask the question there, you might get an authoritative answer or two.

I've wondered what advantages the T10 might have for the Buckyball crowd.

The ability to charge FSD while scooping will shave a considerable amount of time in longer races. But I wonder does the SC agility regain those seconds.

A very interesting question. I haven't seen anywhere where it has been tested in this kind of role against other ships. Plenty of criticism of its supercruise turning, but no assessment of destination-destination performance overall. (If someone finds a comment, please reference !)
